I really like Superquinn. I wouldn’t do my weekly shop here due to their high prices but when you want some quality items it’s the place to go. The following are their main attractions for me personally: –Bread(white rolls with poppy seeds & ‘Sean’s Brown’) –Pancakes –Sausages –Hot chicken rolls/wraps –Coleslaw This particular store seems to be a gold mine & is always busy. I really hope they keep all of the above items when they make the change to Supervalu!

I’m only doing this so I can be first because I simply hate supermarket shopping although, for some reason, I invariably end up doing it every Saturday or Sunday. Clutching my list and my € 1 trolley my first stop is always the scanner ‘tower’ so that I can keep tabs on what I’ve bought as I tour the store and, tip, the checkout experience is much, much faster. After that, my second vice, bread, kicks in and I invariably buy a divinely smelling fresh loaf or turnover of white bread.(1st vice, btw, is wine — see below). One good thing about supermarket shopping at the same place week in, week out is that familiarity actually breeds frugality, I find. Unnecessary forays down the sweetie aisle in search of the elusive breakfast cereal — because it’s still in the same place it was last week — are avoided which is good. Alas, this is usually undone by the time I reach the wine section, the very last stop, where I award myself half a dozen bottles(never goes to waste and an extra 5% discount applies. Don’t judge me, ok?). In fairness, the wine is pretty good value. Fish and meat is fresh and good, vegetables and fruit are pretty dire in comparison. Invariably, the very herb I need is out stock, whole swathes of shelf space(especially on a Sunday) are empty and forlorn and, pet hate, at least one of the weighing scales will be out of labels. Superquinn has been steadily declining in quality over the years since Fergal used pack bags himself and flirt with the wimmin shoppers and I’d probably be happy enough now to shop at Tesco or Dunnes except Superquinn is closer to home which was most definitely not the case some years ago. Other than that, it’s a supermarket. Whaddya want from me? War and Peace?
