Tesco Express’s changed there name some time ago, I think. They are named now Tesco Metros. Being more American? :) wooden’t know ;p I come once in a full moon here, but never get excited about this place. Shop is very small, can’t get everything you’d need. Some products are sold out, whcih is bad. No big sales or discounts like in bigger Tescos. My advise would be to go a bit further to the Centra. Not coming back here unless I’m forced :/

This particular location is a definite step up in size to other Tesco Express places I’ve been to with the same, of course, bump up in prices from the regular Tesco stores. I usually only go here for a few specific items(butter beans, brown rice, Sun-Rite diet fizzy lemonade, 3 for 3 Euro fruit bags, etc) that they have at the same, or almost same, price as the further away from me Tesco on Parnell. Thumbs up to the staff here for being helpful on multiple occasions with the self-checkout machines … thanks! Sometimes their reduced section stocks some tasty items at the helpful lower price for a quick snack on the go or special treat. I didn’t see that«biggest bottle of vanilla extract» that Nigel Q. mentioned but I’ll be on the lookout for it next time I go. Oh, thanks for the listings of the countries that Tesco mobile can call for just 1 cent a minute that you are always updating on your security sensors at the entrance/exit. :-)

Tesco Express recently opened its doors in Fairview and being the curious type I headed down to have a look around. I’m not a huge Tesco fan but if you live in Fairview as I do and you shop locally for stuff which I do it is hard to avoid them. I’m pleased to report that it is not a bad shop and so far, following about 3 visits, all is good. The big advantage that this store has over others in the area is that you can get around it with a trolley, buggy, wheelchair, etc. It is clean, bright and fairly well laid out. It is an Express store so they do not stock the same range of groceries as bigger shops but compared to Tesco in Drumcondra and Centra in Fairview they appear to have a reasonable selection of things that you may want/need. Milk, bread, etc. was the same price as anywhere else. I found that the butter was slightly more expensive than other Tescos but this may have been a fluctuation in price. Strangely, whilst exploring the baking section I found that they had the biggest bottle of vanilla extract I have ever seen in my life which was priced at a whopping € 7 something. Good luck selling those! On my visits the shop was never that busy and the queues seemed to move fairly fast. They have a couple of self-serve checkouts and a couple of staffed ones too. The usual off-licence goods are past the tills and around to the right. The fridges all have sliding doors so you might have a bit of difficulty opening/closing them one handed but I presume that they are all low energy contraptions and that we will see these appearing in other shops slowly but surely. The test will come when I ask them if they can order in an item that bigger Tesco shops stock but smaller ones do not. I spoke to the manager in Tesco Drumcondra once about this and I found that Tesco in Drumcondra have their hands tied by head office as to what they are ‘allowed’ to order and stock on their shelves.
