Here’s one a little bit further afield for ya: The Goblet on the Malahide Road, just past the turn-off for the Artane Shopping Centre. The Goblet is located in one of the rare areas of Dublin that doesn’t have many pubs, but The Goblet more than makes up for this deficit. I first went to The Goblet a couple of years ago, on the strange premise of meeting people that I used to go to primary school with. The Goblet provided a very convivial setting for this unusual social occasion. It’s one of those pubs with a great mix of customers: most of the older crowd sitting in the bar, few groups of younger people having a few drinks before they head out or settling down to stay there for the evening, depending on the night that’s in it. The pub has a little bit too much of an open plan for my liking, but that’s probably because it also serves as a restaurant during the day. I’ve never eaten there personally, but I’m told that the food is very good, and there aren’t any other eateries in the area, so if you find yourself in Artane with your stomach rumbling, head into The Goblet. A really nice spot, worth the trip.
