I wasn’t impressed with the prices on that selection of floppy knitted hats in Head Room. Frankly the sparseness of stock doesn’t say«boutique» to me, just under-supplied… which means when I pick up that greeny-yellow knitted pull-on from Head Room’s racks, the last thing I should see is a price tag for over € 20! Of course, to be fair, they’re working hard to cater to all tastes. And Dublin’s hat wearing public can be quite picky. Who knows the lengths Head Room had to go to in order to secure the stock they offer?

Cute, cleverly-named stall in the George’s Street Arcade with a nice selection of hats. They’ve got many of the bases covered: bucket, cowboy, skully, beanie, fedora, pillbox, beret, Sherpa, so on and so forth. I found some of the styles wildly outdated, though that might just be my opinion and incorrect at that. There aren’t a lot of hats, so that means a couple of things. If you find one and you want it, you best buy it or it will be gone the next time you come by. If you have a big or small head, you’re shit out of luck, as they don’t have different sizes or the ability to size hats for you as a typical hat shop could. That’s a big minus for a tiny-headed thing like myself, but if you noggin is average-size you’re all set.

I’m a bit of a hat person myself… so this place is on the dangerous side for me… it’s got so many goodies peeking out at me as I amble through the arcade. Although I like a lot of the stuff in theory, I do have an issue with the fact that it’s expensive enough, and I do kind of resent paying big bucks for some cool-yet-purely-functional accessory. However…if someone were to buy it for me???

The Head Room specialises in head wear. In fact, that is all it does. Not surprising, considering the name. Once I found the most gorgeous 1940s style hat here, it was so sleek and sophisticated looking. I reluctantly walked away, promising to buy it for myself next pay day. Needless to say that when I fronted up with the money in my hot little hand the hat of my dreams was gone. Moral of the story — if you find a good hat that suits you, get it! The Head Room has a good range(although not massive) of stylish and cool hats. The prices are around the 20 – 30 euro mark, but they seem to be pretty sturdy, so if you like it, it’s probably worth it. There never seems to be anyone working in this store, it’s run by a phantom shop assistant(actually I think it’s run by the shop across from it, but Phantom makes it sound so much more interesting!) See if you can find the shop assistant next time you’re there?
