The Honorable Society of King’s Inns

The Honorable Society of King’s Inns is the training college for all barristers in Ireland. Formerly situated on the site of the present Four Courts, it was moved when Gandon decided that the quays would be a nice place for the judges to hand out justice.
There are two ways to get to the Inns. A: via Bolton Street and up Henrietta Street or B: up Constitution Hill where you can get in via either of the gates and potter up to the front of the building. Parking is solely for students and staff so driving is not recommended unless you want to pay for parking in Henrietta street.
There are no tours around the Inns as students are only allowed bring one or two guests in with them. There are however concerts held occasionally in the dining hall. Coincidentally there are chairs in the dining hall that have been used by such famous people as Padraig Pearse or our beloved Brian Cowen.
Henrietta Street is currently undergoing a sort of transformation in that some of the Georgian buildings are being renovated and if you have a spare million euro or two there is one on the market at the moment.
All in all the building is a fine place which is used frequently for films, dramas etc. Its free, its an easy walk and its also near enough to the Four Courts to get a truly legal day out of it.

This really is a memorable place, the buildings and cobblestones transport you back in time. Many film companies use the area as a cheap alternative to filming period scenes in London for example. Kind of like how L.A. uses Vancouver a lot of the time for filming.
If you appreciate Georgian styled buildings or just have a fascination for all things historical, you must visit. You can relax on the grounds with a sandwich and coffee and just take all the surroundings in. Again it’s free, so why not!
