Take a stroll around St. Stephen’s Green, and you’ll run into the Three Fates Statue /Fountain. It’s a calming piece of artwork, probably meant to make you stop and think and just appreciate all the things you have in life. Believe me, where it’s located in the park, it makes people stop and just think. The fountain is situated near the main corner entrance to the park. It consists of a group of three bronze figures that represent the Three Fates, who weave and measure the thread of man’s destiny. With gratitude, for the help given to German children by the Irish people, after World War II. This statue was a gift offered by Roman Herzog, President of the Federal Republic of Germany at the time. Inspiring!

The three fates is a nice way of remembering the help the Irish people gave to the Germans after the Second World War. Children were sent over to Ireland to recover from the effects of the war and it’s a way of reminding people that with the end of a war there are still a lot of issues to deal with for everyone involved. I’m not sure what the Norns– another name for the three Fates– have to do with children or the help the Irish gave, but the statue is a nice meeting place in Stephen’s Green and quite honestly it’s the only statue in the Green I can remember.
