Uh… really? Mostly 4 or 5 star reviews? Just been to Thunders Home Bakery there. We got a loaf of bread and a few sweetie treaties and back to the gaff for a nice bit o’ coffee… then i came online here and flipped through the reviews and i was seriously side-swiped by the rave reviews. One lovely chap even used the term«an institution». Bollocks to that! Charmless staff, no seating, over-priced, and inedible cakes(Cream donuts — flavorless dough, old cream, bad jam/Chocolate éclair — stale, flavorless chocolate topping/biscuit cake — too much sugar and butter/chocolate brownie — maybe a teaspoon of cocoa powder used, and it was spongy like just a normal cake and, yes again, flavorless). Now, the place has been going for decades, and the people who work there are presumably skilled and wouldn’t be happy with anyone giving the kind of bad review that i’m giving. So, I don’t enjoy saying this, but the bakers really should know better than to sell stuff of that low standard. And as for people who buy these cakes and enjoy them… travel more, try bakeries in other countries, Brazil, Portugal, France, Italy, Spain… and come back at tell me that Thunders Home Bakery is up to snuff. Shameful. I’d like to go again and try the coffee and some other bread and 1 other cake, just to get a more rounded perspective. And maybe the staff were just on an off day. But then again, we decided to patronize a local bakery on a quiet afternoon, and we are treated like we are a bother. Again, totally shameful.

Just had eggs Benedict here. it was terrible. No meat on the rasher, just fat and the bread wasn’t toasted. just a microwave set up, baggot street bridge branch.

Best breakfast sandwich in awhile. Black and white pudding bacon and eggs. The roll was amazing. Just don’t forget your cholesterol meds

this place has been here since i was a child and has changed very little in all that time. i really love the smell of the bakery as you go past towards the supermarket and you just know they have been up all night baking and making all the lovely cakes that have on display. now im don’t really like cream, because it makes my stomach cramp but the fruit slices are delicious and they prepare a mean roll or bap with lots of fresh salad and the staff are usually very polite and seem happy to work there.

An institution, in the best sense of the word. A «real» Dublin Bakery(like Mannings), in the sense that they’re up in the middle of the night making stuff with flour, butter and whatever magic goodness they put in the bread. All types of bread requirements served by very friendly and knowledgable staff, plus mice pies at Christmas to die for. Well priced too — you’re not in Cooke’s Premium-piced Yummy-Mummy zone here. Oh, and cakes. Heavy on the cream please. :-)

Thunders is one of Dublin’s most famous bakeries, and for good reason. Oh, it does bread and scones and such but really you are going for the cakes, which are the devil’s own(foodcake). For when you need a little lunchtime pick-me-up, Thunder’s éclairs, cream buns, carrot cakes and trifles will make you forget all about your deluded boss, but it is their big sheet cakes that really are the show stoppers. I recommend the black forest gâteau.

On the way back from the over priced Cheese Pantry, I popped in here to buy some more food due to my over valued and unfulfilling brekkie. I got a loaf of cheese and onion bread for € 1.70, they also sell coffees and sandwiches to go, oh and they smile! Great value, and great products.
