I’ve been here once, it’s right around the corner of my house. It’s a good place, the food was lovely, the service was excellent. The price was a little high, but everthing else was so good I was happy to pay. Union 8 is a great, check it out.

I would give them 3.8 to be exact. The restaurant itself has a funky vibe and the atmosphere was great. One big plus was that we were able to chat without having to raise our voices even though it was pretty busy. The staff were attentive without being overly familiar. They brought us some brown bread, olive tapenade and butter as soon as we sat down and the tapenade was fab! We had the scallops and spiced lamb to start and they were both amazing. The scallops and black pudding combo with some crispy and creamy elements was delicious. The lamb was succulent and the accompaniments really complemented it. We went for venison and pork belly for mains. My venison was a little overcooked for my liking. I overheard the waiter tell the people at the table beside us that it was served rare. Mine wasn’t but everything on the plate was tasty. The pork belly was a little on the dry side and the crackling somewhat leathery but again overall the dish was nice. We also ordered a side of buttered greens and my comment when they came to the table was ‘they look like something you’d get in a hotel down the country’. It was essentially a bowl of broccoli florets that hadn’t been trimmed properly. We shared the quince crumble for dessert and the pastry case was beyond hard, one bit of it actually flew off the plate onto a saucer. The fruit itself was lovely but the dessert was more comical than anything else. My earl grey tea was lovely, actual leaves, not a bag. The coffee was inoffensive. The bill came to € 83 including two glasses or port. I think we’ll go back a second time to see if the mains catch up with the starters.

Food here was beautiful. Portions felt a bit small considering the price. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff.
