Superb little coffee shop nestled above Carrig Donn in Ennis — this place is a true gem and is a great spot to watch all the hustle and bustle below as you sample their amazing beverages and sweet and savory treats. I had the best… THE. BEST. savoury scone here. Served warm and flaky with pesto and red pepper jam… it was exceptionally good, it’s giving me the feels now just writing about it! Their cakes and bakes are mostly gluten free AND delicious(now there’s a sentence you don’t get to type often) and the coffee(supplied by 3fE) is just sublime. Come, eat, drink, people-watch a while… you won’t be sorry!

This place boasts of being one of the top ten places in Ireland for coffee as voted by the roasted bean loving public. All I can say is, I concur wholeheartedly! Apart from maybe 3fe in Dublin(and that’s just a maybe) this the best coffee I’ve had. We went for the slow drip that was on offer. And when I say slow, I mean slooooow! But oh so worth it. Just gorgeous, so smooth and rich. No milk, no sweetener, just pure unadulterated coffeeness! We had an assortment of goodies along with this, I plumbed for the apple pie which kept to high standard set by the coffee. A note for the staff. Very passionate and informative, they really sold the whole place and menu to us :)

This a lovely hidden gem and I highly encourage you to visit it. I wish I reviewed it twice, but here’s my review of my two visits. It’s gonna be a long one so bear with me haha. My mom noticed Suas Coffee Shop on top of a department store during our first visit to Ennis and we decided we wanted to try it out. To get to the shop you go into the department store and walk up two more floors. When I entered I was amazed by the atmosphere of the café. It’s small and quaint and you can see the workers behind the counter preparing food on a charming stove. You can hear jazz and other vintage music in the background and its loud enough where you can have a conversation with someone without shouting or sit back and enjoy the music(which I quite enjoyed doing myself). Both times I came to the café I sat by the window and was able to people watch. During my first visit, the waiter recommended the filtered two plate(I believe this is what it was referred to as but I don’t remember.). Basically you can enjoy two cups of coffee side by side and they are different from one another(also they change the types of filtered coffee they have). It does take a bit more time to prepare, but they put in a lot of love into the coffee they make and you can see the coffee being prepared right by the door. The waiter told us that the coffee they had this time around were Colombian. One was fruity with a pineapple taste towards the end and the other had a beautiful chocolate taste. I wish I could describe the flavors as vividly as the waiter could, but I suppose you’ll have to visit to hear his descriptions. He also explained how to drink the coffee as well: take your time and take a slip every few minutes and let the flavor develop. He knows his coffee very well and I love to see someone who is passionate about the food they are serving. I recommend you not drink this with cream and sugar because the coffee stands very well on its own and most people think coffee is coffee, but these coffees definitely had distinct flavors. And they aren’t bitter in the slightest. So I sat for an hour drinking my coffee and it was enjoyable and lovely. If you get the filtered coffee please please take your time with it. It’s so amazing and it deserves time to be enjoyed. As for my second visit, it was just as enjoyable. The waiter recognized us and we had a seat at the same window we were last time. My mom and aunt ordered the filtered coffee(I believe one was a coffee and the other was an espresso). This time the flavors were Nicaraguan with an apricot and date flavor and the other was Brazilian with a fig and chocolate taste. For myself, I got the Ginger, Lemon Rooibos tea. Unfortunately I was only able to try the Brazilian coffee, but it was beautiful. It was a nice rich flavor and the fig balanced out the chocolate so it wasn’t overpowering. The tea had a refreshing taste and I know most people don’t like ginger things so much because they’re too intense, but this tea had a perfect balance of ginger and lemon. Also it didn’t need any sugar because it was a bit sweet as well. As for what we ordered to eat, I had the Chorizo, lime, and avocado sandwich and a carrot cake, my mom had a superfood salad and biscuit, and my aunt had a caramelized onion and goat cheese sandwich(both sandwiches were open faced). The superfood salad was perfect! The squash wasn’t too mushy and the salad wasn’t over dressed. The chorizo, avocado, and lime sandwich was divine. The bread was incredibly moist and it came with a salad. I typically find chorizo too spicy but this was perfect. And they don’t skimp on the avocado. The lime taste was a bit faint. I probably could have had a bit more lime but the sandwich was still perfect. The goat cheese and caramelized onion was amazing as well. The bread was moist and the goat cheese and caramelized onions complimented each other perfectly. I think the onions balance out the harsh flavors of the goat cheese. The biscuit is moist and it goes perfectly with the cream and jam(housemade). My carrot cake was awesome and just the way I like it. The frosting wasn’t too sugary and I like how there were nuts in it to give me a bit of a crunch. The waiters also made sure to come to our table every once and a while to see how we were doing and also made conversation. So overall: — the food is spectacular — the coffee is AMAZING and it is unique — the tea is refreshing — the atmosphere is enjoyable and calming — and the waiters are so nice and welcoming Please please please go to this place. You’re missing out if you don’t.
