I quite like this place and it’s one that I would return to for a couple of reasons– the staff are always really sound and helpful, and also it’s definitely the opposite of a tourist trap. You almost have to know the place is there for it to stand out amongst the piles of restaurants and cafés in this area. The food however I’ve found to be just grand. It’s reasonably enough priced and the sandwiches are quite nice but it’s not anything to write home about. The omelette with ham & onion was quite nice, but the chips that came with tasted like old oil and I really didn’t like that. Still it’s nice to get a place off the street when you’re right in the thick of it, and if you get a window seat there’s a nice street view. The menu is a little too large, in my opinion. You can’t do that many things well, it usually appears. So I would suggest the menu be cut in half, especially around lunch time.

Very disappointed by this place. I was expecting something more modern and it wasn’t at all, but anyway, I ordered a gluten free couscous(which means a couscous with rice instead), and my boyfriend took a pizza. His pizza was average, my couscous was a bit tasteless. I know it’s served with rice, so it is probably harder to make it tasty but still I cannot give a better mark for this since I did not really enjoy it.

BYO above the front door. Booking recommended. Really tasty and fresh food. Huge portions. I usually get the kebab and salad. Great prices. The hummus is delicious. They also offer a student discount. Deserts are expensive and generally very meh. Plus after such a big feed there wouldn’t usually bd any space left. An old reliable on shop street.

Reviewing #brunch at #HighCafeGalway — amazing price value, fresh ingredients and friendly staff. Went here with a group of 5, ordering a mix of omelettes, sandwiches and soup. Everyone on the table was impressed — my personal winner were the open smoked salmon sandwich and the four cheese omelette, both not my choices of order. but my spanish omelette was amazing too! You totally should get freshly squeezed orange juice there, so good! Coffees are good too! All in all, defo worth the full star range, I’ll be back for more :)

One floor walk up. You can bring your own wine. Mediterranean style food. Seemed really popular. I had the lamb tangine. eh… I saw other dishes go by that looked much, much better. I’d recommend sitting for a while to see what goes by and order what strikes you.

Went there with two friends had the chicken in filo pastry was gorgeous even though it comes with icing sugar and cinnamon sprinkled on it(not to my taste) also had the apple pie which was gorgeous and one of my friends had the pizza and enjoyed it very much The service does take some time but it is perfectly cooked and about right for those dishes nd you have time to chat to your friends

My girlfriend and I popped into High Café for a late night bite after receiving a recommendation from our host. The restaurant is upstairs, look for a door tucked between two bars. We found the place warm and cozy with a diverse array of pasta, pizza, salads, sandwiches and tagines. Here’s a breakdown of what we had: Vegetarian tagine: hadn’t had one before– it was great. A nice array of stewed veggies. Amazing aroma, very mild on the spice. Served with fresh, hot pita bread that was fantastic. Niçoise salad: in a country of fried foods, a good salad can be hard to come by. Very generous with the tuna and served with a side of anchovies. They can be a little heavy handed with the dressing(Ireland in general), so it may be worth asking for it on the side. Moroccan mint tea: the showstopper. Beautiful presentation. Phenomenal flavor. The tea was served with fresh mint. Truly incredible.
Ratatouille pizza: we ended up going our second night and ordered a pizza without cheese. Simple and good, served on the same pita that came with the tagine. Overall, delicious food on the healthier side with a solid menu of both café fare and Moroccan cuisine.

A great little café on the second floor of the very busy High Street in Galway — I walked past it twice in search of it(and almost got clobbered by a very tired Mikey!). It was definitely worth it though — it’s nice and quiet while still being able to people watch if you manage to nab a window seat. The food was very reasonably priced(nothing over € 12, except for steaks) and came in enormous portions — and very very yummy! I think my attached pic says it all… Service was excellent too with very friendly waitresses. If you do not want a tourist trap but still want a nice meal in the heart of Galway, definitely try this place!

I was really excited to give High Café a great review after reading the positive feedback… but the food was just not that great. The three stars is basically because the staff was exceptionally friendly. My mom and I were not pleased with our meals, the couscous was very dry and my moms calzone had little flavor. Even though the service was slow the staff was friendly and apologetic for our hour plus long wait for our food. If you do not want pub food I guess it is a good alternative but it was no 5 stars.

Traveling in Ireland you just kind of accept that the food is going to be bad — and that’s fine. This country never claimed to have great food, and you didn’t come looking for it. So I really didn’t expect to find a top-quality Moroccan restaurant in Galway. I was just looking for a quick bite hours after most civilized restaurants had closed and was beginning to fear that I would have to settle for grease from a chipper. Fortunately, Galway can do better and provided one of the best meals I’ve had in months. Also, while the restaurant doesn’t have a liquor license you can buy your drinks from the pub downstairs and bring them up to your table. An unusual but adequate arrangement.

The fact is, nobody is doing food that tastes this good for such a low price, particularly on this touristy strip of Galway. The warm goat cheese and roasted vegetable salad was sublime. Less than 5E for the«starter» size, which was plenty big, super tasty, gluten and lactose free, and had lots of different veggies. The Garlic Prawn and Mussel Gratin was a little too cheezy for my liking, but the flavor was wonderful, the seafood fresh, it came with a little salad and awesome garlic bread, and the price was outstanding(9.70E). True, they don’t have much in the way of alcohol, but if you can overlook that, this is one of the best restaurant deals in Ireland. Do NOT pass it up when in Galway!

After many days of pub fare, we were eager to find a café with fresher, lighter options. This place REALLY hit the spot! It was kind of hidden(it’s above another restaurant), but luckily for us there was an employee standing on the street holding a menu. We glanced it over and decided it was for us. The plating and presentation is well-done, and it’s a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere. If you sit by the windows like we did, you have a nice view of the busy street below. I highly recommend it!

Tasty fresh food, on the second floor of the main walk so — if you get a table near the windows — you can people watch to your heart’s content. I had a Spanish omelet, which came with brown bread on a cutting board. The presentation was extremely appealing, but more importantly, the flavor was quite nice. Not only were there spiced potatoes in the omelet, but there were also thinly shaved garlic pieces, translucent celery, and pepper and other spices. Service was excellent, décor was cute, and the price wasn’t too bad, especially considering that Galway is a vacation town.
