I wanted to tack on another section to this review as my love affair with McCambridge’s has only gone on and on. I’ve since become quite addicted to the Dirty Chai Lattes, going straight to get one every time I’m in the city. I’ve racked up two full loyalty cards, and I don’t even live in Galway. That’ll tell ya. I’ve also sampled a few eats from the deli– the peri peri sandwhich was not as spicy as I had hoped, but all delectable fresh ingredients and really not too expensive. I’ve also finally managed to make brunch in the restaurant upstairs, and it was well worth it. I had coconut french toast which was to die for and a delicious Rhubarb G & T. I also got a portion of chips but that was unnecessary, as the brioche was plenty. The service is always fantastic despite being an incredibly busy spot.

Both the shop and restaurant are nice and have a lovely atmosphere. The shop is very popular and so gets a little bit squished, especially around lunchtime and after school ends The café itself is perhaps a bit short on seating when compared to its popularity, waiting on the stairs to be seated is a common occurrence. The menu options are perhaps a little limited, sticking mainly to Irish sandwich favourites and a few other cooked options. Desserts vary on a daily basis and all food is plentiful in amount. Staff however do tend to remove plates as soon as they are clear, regardless of if other people at the table are still eating. Just to be aware — it can be off putting and stressful to some customers!

Great shop to buy ethnic foods like hummus, oils, olives, spices and sauces, wine and Japanese sake, gifts, bread among others. I come here whenever I need to buy food related gifts as they have a lot of nicely prepared things like cutely packed jams, candy and chocolates. The deli is pretty standard, serving the usual sandwiches, salads and soup but they have a nice outdoor seating area and an upstairs restaurant which I’ve yet to try. They’re coffee is not bad either.

A grand food and nice things shop in Galway. They have a good selection of everything fancy and artisan in terms of food, tea, bread, olives, wine, beer etc. I was in for a snoop really and didn’t buy anything. I was getting a train later and I’d enough luggage if I’m honest and none of it was a fridge. Later in the day I realised suddenly — lunch! I can get my lunch to go at McCambridges. Clearly a very popular sandwich bar, as there was a substantial queue. But it moved quickly and I was leaving with my turkey and lettuce roll in no time. It was rather nice, for 3.80 yoyos. Recommended, especially the food from their sandwich bar.

We had breakfast at the café and really enjoyed it. Great coffee with many options. I had the bagel with cream cheese and salmon which was very good. Nice atmosphere and good service with reasonable prices.

We ate at the café, and we had a good experience. It was a busy time, but our wait wasn’t long. They had interesting books for us to peruse next to the table. And it was more affordable than everything else in the area. But the most important part was what I ordered: a bowl of borsh(soup). It was delicious! I couldn’t get enough, and I’m not much of a soup person. Not sure if it’s a regular part of their menu, but that alone is worth a visit.

Very disappointing ‘brunch’ but nice tart :-\ This is a review of their café, not the deli: My companion had delicious sweet potato fries but my ‘Wild Mushrooms with eggs’ were WAY overcooked & were pathetically plonked on a warm plate with equally sorry-looking poached eggs. I wish I had taken a photo — zero effort with presentation! No relish, no slice of avocado — nothing but 2 poached eggs & disintegrated mushrooms with dressing of any kind. My ‘brunch’ was cold so I sent it back & it was reheated so slowly that we had nearly finished the fries by the time it came out, warm this time. We had a slice of a decent pecan & dark chocolate tart with coffees after. Coffee was OK. I wouldn’t be in a rush back but maybe it’s OK if you order something meaty? Regardless, they should cater for vegetarians. Nice décor

I love this store! It is one of my favorite places to buy gifts because they have all the wonderful Irish treats without the stupid touristy packaging. Their brown bread is delicious and moist, they also have a gluten free version. Great selection of teas, jams, yoghurts, and chocolate. The only thing I would not recommend here is their alcohol unless it is something really unique that only they carry it can be found much cheaper elsewhere.

Where to start… McCambridges has it all. A lovely little shop with a pretty impressive(and delicious) selection for the size of it. The deli does the best sandwiches/wraps/baguettes and soup you’ll find anywhere in town. And upstairs there’s a charming bistro that does all sorts of fancy little meals. I’ve never been there for dinner, but for lunch you get some pretty tasty gourmet-type sandwiches where you can really taste the quality of ingredients. They do some mezze plates and hot dishes too. The staff there are always super-friendly(upstairs and down) but upstairs they can sometimes feel just a little inexperienced. Almost every time we’ve been there, they forgot to bring out some part of the meal without a reminder… but they are really nice and everything else there is close to perfect so I wouldn’t let that take anything away from it. :-)

Mc Cambridges is a impressive gourmet food and wine shop with a casual dining area upstairs and a café in front of the shop. The bakery and deli has a nice selection of quality food for takeaway so you can eat gourmet food at grocery store prices and eat at their attractive outdoor seating area on shop street.

The deli is great but the café is only ok. The staff just don’t know how to deal with a busy café and the service is a bit slow. For Galway this is not a bad option as there is a decent variety of food here.

What can we say? You can’t beat a classic. Mc Cambridge’s delicatessen has been the ‘Shop’ on Shop street for generations, and continues to be a landmark of quality at the heart of Galway city. Many a city dweller refusing to do their shopping anywhere else, this fine food emporium will get you the finest cuts of beef in town, reccomend a good wine to accompany from their celler and delight you with friendly chat — all at a price you haven’t seen since the good old days. If you don’t make it to the shop yourself, at least try the famous home made brown bread(available in most supermarkets) that has become a near national treasure. Can’t beat it.
