If you’ve the time, a side-trip to the Michael Kennedy Ceramics in Co. Gort and Sligo will introduce you to a decidedly Irish tradition in pottery and ceramics. First spying some of his work in Co. Sligo, I made it a point to stop in Gort and visit his little workshop. He had numerous apprentices in various modes of creating these wonderful art objects and I fell in love with the Sea Goat bowl. As a Capricorn and surfer, I felt this was the one. I bought it and they packed it like it could survive an earthquake. It now hangs on the wall where its beauty can be shared. The craftsmanship is obvious in design, colors, embellishments and function and I’m sure if you stopped in, you too would become an admirer and, perhaps, collector of his work.
