As authentic as it gets. I will never forget our February trip. We entered in the wind and rain and were greeted with a warm fire and big glasses of Irish Whiskey. As we sat and chatted up the locals two young boys entered to find their grandfather. He asked them to sing the song they just learned in church, wow. We thought we had entered heavens gate as these two filled the pub like voices of angels. I will never forget that afternoon in my life. We ended up hanging out and shooting pool, playing the jukebox full of American tunes. If you find yourself in Howth this is a must stop. The cemetery next door makes for amazing photographs as well.

Spent some time in Dublin and found myself spending more time in Howthe… I am a fan of seaport towns. Not much Vodka drinking going on in the Cock Tav but I came along and they have to dust off the bottle. It was a cold winters day and just a few villagers tending to the fire snacking on a ham sandwich accompanied with some pints. Being that I was rocking my faux garter tights and thigh high boots they were convinced I was either A. Play Boy Bunny or B. Lady Ga Ga. Not sure how those two even go together but of course I had to laugh The tiny fire was blazing and some pints and brilliant banter was what we were all after in this 320 year old building. It’s authenticity is number 1 no doubt, pool tables, dart board and stained glass windows this is my kind of place. The Locals are engaging, polite, and genuinely interested in others… More importantly they want this to place to feel like home to you. They love Americans. After figuring out my Irish lineage from my Great Grandparents name«Powers» they said awe the whisky the clan from Waterford. Nice… I knew my lavish drinking ways had come from the bloodline. Upon a night of cheering, laughing me doing the splits and one of the regulars«Johnny» who was holding up my leg(view my pics) we all seemed to get along well together. I felt like Family not a tourist. This is on my list of «Old Digs» One of the things I love about my travels is stumbling across Old Genuine Taverns… I could just image the history made here. If you look up on the ceiling a Texas Flag is hung and Cowboys banner! Guess some former players spent some time at the bar. you should visit Ireland… the people are connected to one another and proud… the culture, stories, history… they get it!

Drinks are reasonably priced but for a fisherman’s pub the pints are dreadful. If I was out at sea for 2 weeks I wouldn’t be walking up the hill to this place. There’s a pool table and digital dukebox in a very spacious room with high vaulted ceilings in the back. They had a ballad session on there last Friday(seemed to be a regular thing) but the crowd there were, with all due respect, rough. And not that nostalgic hardy fisherman rough either, just rough. All in all probably one of the least appealing pubs in Howth, but I suppose it’s no harm to drop in for one if you’re on a pub crawl or something.
