Can only really review the ice cream (99s) as this is only thing I’ve bought here. Don’t know what it it but they are top notch! My bf drives here especially just for the ice cream. Very popular in summer so mind the queues.

A pair of 99s (no longer 99p) went down a treat. We didn’t need to explore the whole shop to find them either: the machine is up front, behind the counter. On a hot busy Saturday they had a man dedicated to producing them, and the whole transaction couldn’t have taken more than 30 seconds. But a couple of smiles from the staff brightened our already bright day.

In the beforetime, nearly every newsagent in the country used to be called The Gem, but the practice seems to have fallen by the wayside in recent times. It’s great to see this Gem standing proud opposite the Dart station, and in the tradition of its predecessors, it aims to be all things to all people.
It has its own ice-​cream stand called Smooch — the people of Howth love their frosty treats — as well as newspapers and magazines (including specialist ones for yachters), groceries, confectionery and a hot deli counter
