This place is just a little out of the ordinary for kildare so a welcome change to the norm. The staff are lovely, you can pick up a gift if you want and the food is freshly cooked with homegrown produce. Love it. It is small however and some women tend to bring buggies in the size of mini coopers so this is my only gripe. Leave them outside the back door on the patio !!! Get here early and not at lunch time is my advice.

I’d been promising to take myself back here for some time so when my Dublin lunch plans fell through, I drove over to this picturesque village. I ordered the vegetarian lasagna but I was apologetically informed that only a small portion remained. I smiled, «That’s grand ‘coz I was gonna have a scone too.» She gave me the scone on the house. I’d been told the scones were to die for. They’re not worth becoming a modern-day martyr for but I did start chewing really slowly just so I could hold the taste in my mouth for longer. I refuse to use the term«amazeballs» but I have to admit that it entered my head in this moment. Also, I’m pretty sure I witnessed a young couple dramatically break up outside the window as I savoured a scone. Sometimes, it pays to be single.

What an amazing gem! When headed out of Dublin, friends and I got off the motorway in search of caffeine to fuel us on our trip. We randomly pulled into Kilcullen and after driving around and attempting to learn how to parallel park on the British side… we ended up parking and popping into An Tearmann. We were so pleasantly surprised, it became the first and greatest example of how jumping off the itinerary was the best way to get from place to place. This is a social enterprise, and for a bunch of business students, it’s the best thing to find. They are run by volunteers, serving locally sourced food(so local, I think the chickens we passed on the way into the shop were the providers of the eggs we ate), and sell locally made goods as well. Everyone we interacted with was so very friendly and welcoming, glad to pass advice about the rest of our trip and eager to hear our opinions(which were glowing). The food(I had an amazing cajun chicken salad and biscuit) was wonderful, and we were all over-stuffed by the time we left(and if we could have had our way we wouldn’t have left at all, I think). I definitely recommend stopping in if you’re in the area and looking for an unexpected delight.
