Gaelic Tower

This is actually the tallest round tower that you can visit in Ireland. There is another one taller than this but you cannot get inside.
They charge you 4 Euro for adult but on my opinion it worth every cents. You can stay in the top as long as you want but to arrive at the top you need to climb 6 ramps of wooden stairs. It doesn’t need a physical training but, if you feel that moving from an upper floor in an office by regular stairs makes you daisy or tired, then it might not be a good idea for you. Another thing to advise it is also the space inside. It might be little bit claustrophobic.
Once you arrive at the top you can see all Kildare Town enjoying a magnificent view. I was there on a windy day so on the top was really windy I couldn’t even keep my eyes open for a long time. The top for safety reason is caged to refrain people from doing stupid things :-)
This tower is beside St Brigid Church and there is a shed where to buy your ticket and if you need info around the area just ask. On my way back I got also a flyer with all the historic amenities in the village. Priceless!

C’est à la fois un must absolu et un défi !
Cette tour, témoin de temps reculés, tient là, bien droite, dans le cimetière de la cathédrale. Et on peut monter à son sommet ! Avouez que quand on voit la photo, cela né semble pas évident …
Eh bien, ce n’est pas évident…
Six échelles de bois se succèdent, toutes plus raides que la précédente, vous obligeant à vous contorsionner pour vous retourner sur la plateforme et prendre la suivante (sac-​à-​dos à proscrire ! très jeunes enfants impossible).
Et là-​haut, une vue directe sur la cathédrale de granit gris, et toute la campagne irlandaise, verte et grise comme tout le monde le sait. Et beaucoup de vent, bien sûr !
Une plongée dans le passé qui vraiment vous donnera l’impression d’être réellement en Irlande !
