Friendly place. Nice sandwiches and great pints. Stopped here after visiting the Smithwicks experience.

What a wonderful, fun place. We chose it on a Monday because music was advertised. We walked in to a friendly atmosphere and found incredible food. We had the pumpkin and sweet potatoe soups which were really good, but the energy salad with cous cous, greens, spiced carrots, harrisa, and chicken was amazing. The bartender/waiter/host was so friendly. And the music was fun… and, of course, we ran into other folks along the way. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in town. You should too.

Top Empfehlung des Braumeisters bei Smithwicks. Netter Bartender, gutes Bier(Pale Ale sehr zu empfehlen), Sandwiches sehr lecker! Keine Touri-Falle. Gern wieder!

Went on the advice of someone at working at the nearby Cathedral. Food and drink were fast and fresh. Pub worker(bartender?) was very friendly and the prices were reasonable. Great local pub!

Cleere’s is one of the hotspots during the Rhythm and Roots festival in Kilkenny. A real wholesome Irish pub with good thick walls and a tiny venue out back for gigs. We watched Pete Molinari play on Friday, which I know I would have appreciated more if I hadn’t been out boozing the night before. On Saturday afternoon, we attempted to buy tickets for Joe Pug. We were told he’d sold out early in the week. For some reason, I knew we’d get to see him. We asked at the doors to let us know if any tickets became available and sure enough, we were in luck. And boy was I glad! Joe Pug is some performer. With those blue blue eyes and the way he went at the harmonica… His lyrics were like rare gems that I’d like to get out and appreciate in the quiet of my own bedroom. The lights in the audience were left on. I have a feeling Mr Joe Pug requested it that way so he could make eye contact with us. For the last part of his final song, he switched off the speakers and simply played in front of us. A man with his voice and his guitar. And I fell in love for 60 minutes…

Cleere’s is known for its cosy theatre out the back which is a much-loved local venue for music and theatre attracting quality local, national and international acts. The main bar is always buzzing with conversation. Get in early to grab a coveted couch-spot. Friendly staff will serve you up a great pint and always, always check if there’s something going on in the theatre… you’re likely to discover some hidden gem of a band in there at very reasonable prices. Smoking facilities amount to a single bench out the front, but who cares, it’s Cleere’s!
