This place is terrible. Don’t let any other reviews tell you differently. The food is not good. The soup was tasteless and the bread was dry. It was one of our worst experiences in Ireland. Disgraceful! Hubs didn’t even finish his sandwich– and if you know him, that’s pretty much unheard of. I know there isn’t a lot around here, but turn around and go somewhere else.

Well, we wanted to get out of Dublin, at least for a bit. Pre-Desmond rain had washed out our plans of a drive up north or out west, as visibility was low, and afternoons short. So. On the train we went for a little day trip out to Killiney. It was recommended that we hike the summit to obelisk, and we did. What spectacular views, and highly recommended! You can see north to Howth and south to Killiney Bay and the Wicklow Mountains. Just lovely, and lots of folks out walking their dogs. Some of the homes you will pass by as you ascend from the DART are quite spectacular and this is clearly a moneyed area. Anyway, up on the summit we chatted with a few dog owners. Everyone was remarkably fit as obviously this hike is undertaken daily. And, we weren’t too bad, not too much huffing and puffing, but definitely slower than the locals. At first, those we spoke with were quite distant but warmed up, a decided contrast to the friendliness and warmth of the Dublin folk we met on our stay. After taking in the views we headed back to the DART but decided to drop in to the Druids chair. Well, tho we were nearly the only patrons, we were definitely ignored. Finally the barkeep when beckoned came about and took our drink order. We also asked if food was available, and he glanced at regulars at the bar and nearly shouted«no!» Then he sauntered over, and admitted, «yes, we are serving food.» We ordered, but the snark or snarl behind the countenance definitely put me off, at any rate. Clearly our«American» accents and demeanor put him off. If you are in the area, leave this pub off your«must stop» list. Apparently, Bono lives nearby and these folks have tourist fatigue. So, don’t waste your time.

Why has it taken me this long to drop on into the friendly folk @ The Druid’s Chair. Great, cosy and welcoming pub in the centre of Killiney Village, just a stone through from Killiney Hill… This is defo the place to come to enjoy a tipple after wondering Killiney Hill or Vico Road/Coast Road! Full bar along with very reasonably priced wines available by the glass or the bottle; their food menu is very casual and good price tag. There is 2TV screens for those into the sport, at the time I was there… They had GAA on one, football on the other. Inside is very clean and well spaced out, not at all what I expected from the outside. This place would suit both local as well as a great spot for tourists, the friendly staff make it definitely an Irish warm welcome. They host free quiz night every Sunday(drink prizes on offer); I’ll be definitely back to try it and will let you in on that with an updated review soon! Plus… If you get the free hug check in offer… Redeem it! ha ha

The Druid’s Chair is nice and quiet pub with a very friendly man behind the counter. The prices for the alcohol are common and the food is affordable. The menu is quite big, you will find something for every taste. Don’t expect haute cuisine, the traditional fish & ships is on the list, or course. The specialty in regards to beer is an ale from Dublin, which I recommend and another ale from Cork from a quite new brewery. The pub is clean and the TV shows, of course, sports.
