After considerable thought, two stars. I like Cabra and see some positive elements, but there are problems. The driveway from the road climbs gracefully to the Castle. Reception is efficient, and the staff responsive. The information sheet on the structure is illiterate. It makes no sense and seems to have incomplete sentences cut and pasted from some earlier information. The staff have no information on the history or architecture of the structure beyond the handout. The Castle has a number of purpose– built guest rooms in a series of out buildings. They appear modern and nice. The Castle itself is «furnished» with the most amazing collection of old flea market and car boot sale junk. The owners seem to have assumed that guests simply would not know the difference. The food is very good, but the dining experience is dominated by the noise level of tour bus denizens crowded into a single space with other guests. Think high school cafeteria. The staff make an effort to keep a touch of class but can’t overcome the numbers. Note: the whole wedding reception business is seperated from the main guest areas and actually looks quite good. There is a very pleasant outdoor«patio» for afternoon or evening drinks and bar food. But the only acceptable way to do breakfast or dinner is to wait from the groups to leave!

Lovely place to sit and have a bar lunch. I didnt stay here although I did walk around the hotel and the grounds– both are lovely. One of my friends had his wedding reception here a couple of years back and it was fantastic by all accounts. I will certainly be back for a stay in the near future.

This is one of my favorite hotels! The staff are wonderful and the grounds/rooms feel so warm! The Irish Wolfhounds are a cool bonus ;)

The service was just awesome! they make us feel welcome and since obviously we don’t look like locals they give suggestions where to eat, good places to take pics, and even the best happy hour LoL. Too bad we had to check out early tomorrow but this place is worth staying at even for just one night. We had our breakfast and dinner here at the castle so expect a pricy meal, i enjoyed the ceasar salad and my angus fillet but hubby told me it was dry for a well done steak, i’m not sure what he meant by that but i enjoyed mine anyways. The service was very personal because our server talks to us, asks us where we’re from and whenever we ask her a question about a certain place, she answers them and make suggestions also to make our stay in Ireland more fun. Based on hubby, the golf course is not that well maintained but this place is not really a golf escapade, so only golfers would care hahaha! He still enjoyed his 9-hole game and that’s what matters. Overall i highly recommend this castle if you just want to get out of the U.S. and go somewhere really quiet. Special thanks to GROUPON. i love it!
