Went here the whole during time in the summer months with my grandfather. This place is brilliant for picnics, for families and swimming.

Lough Gur is an ancient places with almost every Irish legend touching on it in some way. It is said that from this lake the legend of Excalibur was burn as the lake belongs to the Goddess Aine, who was a Goddess of white and light who presented a gold sword to her lover from the lake. There are many other legends such as this to go with the lake as it was always seen as a holy place. The lake was origanlly a natural fortress with an island in the middle(Knockainy)but half of it was drained at the end of the 19th century. Every major museum in the world is said to have a piece from Lough Gur. It is now a national park with some lovely walk ways around it. But if you are visiting beware as the lake is said to take anyone who falls asleep near her shore or maybe it is the Goddess herself who loves to play games and might want you to join in.
