I had a light which was not working, bought new bulb still not working so off i trotted to the Carrick Hoover centre. They kindly checked the fuse for me but it was still not working so booked it in to be sorted out. The guy behind ‘Mr Fixer’ was good because he fixed the light BUT I have strong doubts about the lady up front. I am sure she is quite lovely and perhaps his mother or a family member but front side could do with a heap of training in customer service. I mention this because I went into the newsagents next door and a man came in looking for a fuse having been sent there from the Carrick. It was not the normal plug type fuse but the big type like what is needed for a fuse box. Not the best way of doing business in these days and I would guess not a man to go back to the Carrick Centre?

When I watched John Carney’s ‘Once’ I automatically assumed this was the Hoover shop in question, I mean, if I was the location manager it would have been, there’s not a more memorable hoover shop in Dublin. They definitely know this too, using their notable yellow shop front as their web page template. In fact, you should really check out they’re web page for the groovy old photographs of the, sadly, now deceased founder and all-round, rock-n-roll, hoover show-man extraordinaire, Joe English. The company is now run by his son and, despite playing a great underdog, I was as astonished as David D to find that they are basically the most successful hoover related company in Dublin. Amazing. I like this hoover place, the more and more I think about it, as soon as I have some floor, I’m going to the Carrick Hoover Centre for my hoover. I’ve always thought those Henry hoovers seem pretty good, I think I’d probably get one of them.

Hoover bags, they have been on the shopping list for the last 6 weeks and I keep forgetting them. Passing through Monkstown today I pass the hoover centre and thought I’d just get it over with. I spied a vacuum cleaner in the window that looks pretty similar to the one at home… well, it’s the same colour anyway, so I confidently stride in and request a bag of bags. The lady behind the desk takes one look at me and asks«are you sure it’s the same hoover?» I admit they are similar but cant be sure, she patiently explaing that colour is not the best basis on which to get hoover bags and perhaps I had better take note of the model number. Duly chastened I thanked her and left. And to be honest that impressed the pants off me, instead of going for a sale at any cost the lady in there was more than willing to try to educate me so that I would come back with the correct info so that I would get what I actually needed. A shop that takes a little pride in what they do, many could take lessons from them, They don’t just sell hoovers and associated bits, they also sell kettles, toasters, batteries and for some reason lamps made of colanders(really, I took pictures… See attached!).

This is an absolute mind bender… So often i passed this store and thought it was derelict, forgotten, useless, old and broken. But low and behold, Carrick Hoover Centre is and has been for the last 30 years the number one hoover/dishwasher/washing machine repair company in the Dublin area. … … wha? I thought my mum was having me on when she suggested we go get the hoover fixed down in the town… I couldn’t believe the place was a working shop, it looks like something out of the 70’s. In fact on their website the photo from the 70’s showing the shop front is exactly like that of today. Frankly this is like something out of a goosebumps book.(this place and the Fun Place in Dublin) i have a feeling that some mad scientist lives in the basement and devises plans to end the world!!! But no they are an excellent repairs company who will both call to your house and fix your problems. the fixed our hoover perfectly, and its still going strong. Well done Carrick Hoover Centre — you sly dog!
