In some tourist guide I’ve read that Gallery 29 Café in Mullingar is one of the best bistros in Ireland. We went there for a lunch break on our way to Athlone. As often in Ireland’s small locations we were cramped into a corner near the entrance. As we were looking out at the street beaten by some heavy heavy rain we were served a hot carrot soup, which was very good and comforting. I thought the tap water smelled a bit of chlorine and — strangely — soil. But than again I had a very delicious rhubarb crumble. Even the sad tea bag drowning in the lukewarm water was tolerable together with that crumble. My conclusion: Great food, people of the Gallery! Just pay attention to detail. Give the whole experience a final touch. Try to seat people comfortably. Offer some quality loose teas, put a slice of lemon in the water, better yet filter your water. Make a difference with the little things as you already shine with the food that you offer. It could be really perfect.
