Ah, smellin’ of books! This old bookshop by the Hill of Tara is run by Michael Slavin, author of The Book of Tara and a very knowledgeable gentleman is he. On a quiet day, he can be found comfortably seated behind a pile of books listening to the radio, on a busy day he chats to customers and on one occasion, I was lucky enough to pop in as he gave a slide show(with actual slides and a projector) about the history and archaeology of Tara. The book selection is eclectic and fun, I always buy something there whether I intended to or not. Worth a visit, a rare old-school used bookstore, like what they had when I were a lass.

The Old Book Shop is charming and packed with old and new books. It is run by Michael Slavin who wrote The Book of Tara and The Tara Walk. He is an expert on all things Tara and we had the pleasure of watching a slide show presented by him and he sang us an old Irish song! You can find all sorts of classic books in this shop with specialties including history of Ireland books, Irish poets, and of course Michael Slavin’s own books that he will sign for you! This book shop is located right on the Hill of Tara so you can walk right out to the hill after hearing all about it from Mr. Slavin. This was truly a wonderful experience and I’m so glad little book shops like this still exist!
