Railway Lodge Country Home and Railway Cottage, Carmel Geoghegan

The Railway Lodge is an exceptional country home, in the heart of Western Ireland’s Connemara mountainous region. Just 3 min by car from the town center of Oughterard it is still set quite remote to be in a really relaxing atmosphere. While going through Oughterard in western direction turn left before the bridge at the church, then immediately right again and follow the signs.
I have to admit, that I’ve personally not yet stayed at the lodge overnight, as Carmel’s place it so close to my Granny’s that she’d never allow me to stay anywhere but with her. Still Carmel is such a good friend and welcoming host, that I can wholeheartedly recommend staying there — and the awards and listings she’s won for her services demonstrate this as well (Michelin Guide Recommended, Member of Alastair Sawday’s «Special Places to Stay», Ireland, Charming Inns & Itineraries, Karen Brown’s Guides to name just a few).
Current room rates as of now are 50 – 60 € per person sharing or 70 – 80 € per single occupant including a full breakfast (but be sure to check the website or call to confirm the rates).
For a special treat there is the Railway Cottage, a separate building available for a minimum of 2 nights stay (offered at 550 – 600 € for a weekly rate). The Railway Cottage is completely self-​contained with its own kitchen, sitting room, double bedroom and en-​suite bathroom.
