I was very glad to see that my local Café de Provence had opened again, although a better name might now be Cafě Acapulco or some such, as it is now run by the lovely Jessica and her team, who hail from Mexico. The coffee is up there with the best I have tasted in Dublin, and the fresh, made-on-the-spot scones, made in muffin shapes(!) are delicious. The burritos are superb too, and though I have not tried the full irish breakfast or variations on it, I have seen many empty plates being passed back to the kitchen with appreciative comments. I try my very halting Spanish chatting to Jessica, and she told me that there is a Spanish conversation meet-up in the café every Thursday at 5pm! What more could you want? Excellent coffee and the chat en Espagnol!

This café is in its third incarnation(that I know of), and this seems to be the best one so far. I was in a terrible hungover state and needed some breakfast. I thought I’d try this place as I’d heard it had reopened. This time I got french toast with bacon and it was really good. The café wasn’t full but it was fairly busy and the staff were attentive and friendly. There wasn’t long delays as there had been in previous versions of this place(if there had been a long delay, I might have died, as I was hanging!). The waitress brought be a glass of water unasked… I don’t know if this was because I looked so awful or because they do it as standard but I was grateful! There’s a good selection of breakfast options and its pretty good value. I hope they can keep it up!

This café is beautifully decorated in traditional French style, the crockery is pretty and eclectic and the coffee is good. It does a range of food from cakes and quiches to breakfast rolls and pasta dishes. The staff are friendly, only downside is that the chairs are a little hard and wouldn’t encourage lingering.
