Just driving home from Cork, we decided we needed some food. And badly. But we were quite specific. Either pizza or Chinese. Luckily, one of the girls had had pizza the day before, so the latter won. Unfortunately, there isn’t much along the motorway, so we had to go into a city/town and this trip we chose Portlaoise. What luck! We found the Portlaoise Chinese Restaurant by chance while we walked through the centre. On one side there’s a takeaway and on the other, a modern and sparsely furnished dining area. I ordered my favourite, chicken with cashews and veg with fried rice. What arrived was a beautifully presented bowl of chicken with piles of cashews and vegetables. Just piles. And lovely fresh fried rice. I’m so delighted that I didn’t fill up on the 2 baskets of prawn crackers they gave us. Just a word of advise if you’re blowing into Portlaoise, head to this place. Great food. Nice staff. Not bad prices for eating at the restaurant. And if you live in Portlaoise and you haven’t been. Well, shame on you!
