Shall I know more? It’s enough for me though… Carnaween House is a luxury guest house located in the very North of the Republic of Ireland, in a town called Narin Portnoo, Co. Donegal. Getting there is quite an adventure as the landscape keeps on changing. The city slowly fades away for brighter colours. Once you get there, before anything, you stare at the sea and just breathe.
Is Carnaween House well located? The house is situated on top of a hill. From the doorstep, you face the sea and the island in the middle of it. The sun appears and suddently you are taken aback by the beauty of the setting. The sea is emerald blue, the island is warm light green and dark brown, the sky just seems to create a halo over it. Then you turn to the immaculate white house. In complete contradition with the colours of the landscape but in total harmony with it. A peace of heaven in heaven…
How is the accomodation? It is luxurious. Arlene is such a wonderful person. She welcomes you with open arms and it just feels like the place to be. The house provides 8 rooms: 1 family, 6 double, and 1 single rooms. Each room has an en-​suite bathroom. Some of them have TV-​DVD players but, between you and me, you don’t even think about switching them on ! A traditional stone cottage, just a few minutes from Carnaween House, can give you the chance to have a little more privacy.
Is there a restaurant in the house? Indeed, the restaurant is a very hot place to be as the front window is facing one of the most breath taking views in Donegal. Serving everyday, you can enjoy local seafood as well as a great selection of wines. Also, you can arrange to organize private parties within the restaurant. A walk on the beach after dinner will leave you with a taste of «when will I come back?»
Is it too much to ask for the rates? Not at all.
— High season (Jun-​Aug) = € 60/​person sharing
— Mid season (Mar-​Apr-​May, Sept) = € 50/​person sharing
— Low season (Oct to feb, New years excl.) = € 45/​person sharing
— Chilren: half price
And for our friend the dog: € 30 per dog/​day
For the cottage :
— Per night: € 205 — € 325
— Per week: € 455 — € 750
Anything else to add? Sometimes you need a break, you need to find yourself again. Sometimes you need a moment of peace in a god forsaken place. Sometimes you need to stop dreaming of this place and just go there, escape from your routine for a day or two.
