Burger was under seasoned and over done. Hake salad was terrible. Tasted«fishy» even though the night before it tasted amazing at a neighboring restaurant. All for 30 euros for 2 meals.

The food here is out of this world. All the soups are vegetarian, and are served piping hot with delicious bread. We ate three meals here over three days(staying at an apartment nearby). Nice waitstaff and a very smalltown feel. There are TVs and plenty of room in the actual pub portion, and a few tables in on the restaurant side. Nice atmosphere, good beers on tap, and again, the food. YUM!

The starter chicken wings were Ok — they weren’t crispy for the most part, kinda soft which I don’t like, the blue cheese sauce didn’t taste of blue cheese at all… and I love blue cheese sauce! The main risotto with prawns was really good. The chocolate mousse was really very good!!! Probably a bit pricey for pub grub but it was fine. The service was very friendly but the restaurant and bar feel a bit cluttered — but it’s not bad all in all. We all were very hungry and left full, so that’s what we wanted. Worth a visit sure.

We were visiting Dublin and happen to be staying about two blocks away from the oarsman. Was recommended to us by the owner of the place where we were staying, and it did not disappoint. We ended up going there twice in three days. The service was very friendly; The food was DELICIOUS; and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

The Oarsman was great for a quasi-local’s experience. The pub is obviously legendary due to its mention in Ulysses, but it is a little off the beaten path for those in the Dublin city centre(thankfully, not me). The food was good but, even for Dublin, a little too expensive. It is a GREAT place to drink however. It was a true pub experience when the only person in the bar besides me, my girlfriend and the bartender was Paulie, a British guy hell bent on watching the British women’s national team in the World Cup. Overall a fun place, but would skip food entirely.

Nice little spot around Fisherman’s Wharf. I’d recommend the garlic prawns, haddock and chips and chicken wings! The mango sauce with oyster mushrooms was also awesome!

Came back here recently on paddy’s day. The lunch menu was very limited and very over priced. The burger was 16 euro, I kid you not! I ordered a chicken sandwich(7,50) Which consisted of two slices of Brennans bread and a dry piece of chicken. SHOCKING! We felt totally ripped off. I’m not going to rate this down star wise, as it might be a once off — but me and my 3 lunch buddies seriously will think twice about giving this place another shot. pity

I had seafood chowder lunch here for the first time the other day. It wasn’t good, what a shame. The chowder had so much leek in it, it was almost leek soup, very little fish and a couple of severely undercooked potatoes. This was served with 2 slices(well, 1 slice cut in half) of not fresh and therefore toasted and slightly burnt bread with butter that was so cold that it wasn’t spreadable. As I went to pay, their card machine was working. I had no cash on me and wasn’t told before I ordered. Awkward. As much as I enjoy this place for a pint, for lunch I certainly would not consider it again.

This was my first evening meal for my Ireland vacation. I came with with 3 friends and it was honestly nothing special. I ordered a Bulmers cider which was not sweet enough for me but my friends enjoyed it. We sat in the dining section and I ordered the fish and chips and again it was nothing special. The fish was very bland and looked a lot better than it tasted. . The service was satisfactory and it was a relaxing atmosphere but I was there for the dining. Maybe that was my mistake.

The Oarsman is a cool relatively upscale pub in Ringsend. There’s a ‘woodsy’ feel when you walk in — almost ‘cabiny’(is that a word?) We ordered a Guinness and Vodka Cran(served in a fancy wine glass) at the bar and that was a bout 11 euro. We also made a large-party reservation in one of the three dining spaces. The menu was really nice and the buffalo wings were a hit with everyone! I ordered the tagliatelle pasta dish which I would rethink on a future visit. But, I noticed they have nice wines by the bottle and featured wines as well. There’s also some very cool photograph artwork on the walls too. This is a good spot for a group get-together. Or just sit in the bar and take in the feel of the main space and subdued natural light via the large windows. If you’re heading to the O2, this is a perfect spot to meet up for a drink and a bite to eat before the show. Just a ten minute walk to the venue! Cheers!

A proper Dublin pub. Great pints of Guinness served by friendly bar staff in a relaxed atmosphere. What more could you want for after work pints?

So as I showed a Galwegian around, it started to rain and we stepped into The Oarsman… a place I’d never really considered entering. But what a really nice place to be. What came out of the taps was like the elixir of life itself and the regulars were genuine and friendly and struck up a conversation with us. It was quite a surprise to the Galwegian who didn’t expect any sense of community to be found in big ol’ Dublin but here it was! There’s a roof ‘garden’ as well. There’s not much room and it’s really just a couple of chairs on the roof for people to sit out on in warm, sunny weather but it’s still a nice addition.

My second review of this spot, just back after a drubbing by the All Blacks and the atmosphere is crazy, good fun but had to return over to road home to the wife, the oarsman is where it’s at, good friendly people, good pints served with a smile, perfection in my eyes(biased view).

Live trad music sessions? Check! Yummy pizzas? Check! Comfy seats? Check! Free cocktail sausages on Fridays? Yes please! I know I’m easily impressed… Like Quentin and Bridget said, the Oarsman is a nice, comfortable and welcoming pub where you can get a good pint while relaxing on a comfy chair. It’s nice and quiet enough for a chat, but can get a bit loud during the music sessions but it’s great when you’re up for some lively music and pretty good musicians.

I had a friend who used to complain about the quality of bodhrán playing by the live band here. I say, if you have a live bodhrán player in Ringsend to complain about, you’re doing pretty well. When I’ve got it in me to make the trek across town, The Oarsmen is exactly the pub I want to end my journey in. Pints are cold and service is simple, just the way a proper pub ought to be. Here traditional wood and an absolutely ancient bar give way to sleek uplighting and exposed stone walls at the back. The toasted cheese sandwiches and baking pizzas on sale during bar hours enhance the experience(although I usually stick to a packet of Kings), especially if your group manages to squeeze into the much coveted front window booth. The trad band who plays here regularly is made up of a quartet or so of competent muscians. Their music adds to the ambience without being so loud as to drown out conversation. And don’t worry, Mr Bodhrán player, I tap my feet to the songs without complaint. In the afternoons it’s quiet and calm, with the whish of outside traffic lulling outside. The smoking area /beer garden at the back is suitably elegant for its setting, and a huge flatscreen at the back of the room keeps footie fans sated as they sip pints.

Now this is an old pub… actually, I have no idea how old it really is but looks the part and inside it is snug and comfortable and they pull a great pint. in the old days… I mean the good old days when you could light-up I bet the smoke was so heavy you couldn’t see the back of the room — that’s how you could tell a good boozer! There is a sign in the window that tells all that on Wednesday and Thursday nights they do trad music — something I would avoid like the plague but I know I’m in the minority!
