The Square was our ‘go-to’ shopping centre when in college — well before the days of doing weekly shopping and even before Dundrum was built. Now I’m showing my age. And dare I say it, so is the Square. It has gone through a major overhaul in recent years — the biggest probably since it was originally built, but as you walk around the often confusing levels, you can’t help but feel the job was only half done at times. For example, they got rid of the waterfall and river area in line with a more contemporary look, but the toilets on each floor still remain grotty, and old — why is this? Aside from things to moan about, there are reasons I shop here nevertheless! The Dunnes is massive and great, there are plenty of ‘man’ orientated shops, a FREE kids play area(not massive but keeps a toddler happy!), free two hour parking, Debenhams and lots of room to push a pram about. And let’s not forget the butcher that does ‘Fiver Fridays’ — amazing value! Grand for bargain heads, decent amount of shops under one roof heads, I have a fiver on me and have to get dinner for tonight and the parking is free heads!

I get a lot of exercise when I visit the Square! It is spread over 3 floors and I always end up on the wrong floor when Im looking for a certain shop! Although its called the Square, with a roof like a pyramid inside its shaped like a heptagon! It is a bit of a maze to me really. And no I dont like using the store locator thingy! Shop wise its got a good array and great parking.

i go here cause its local, has many stores and one of the few places that has a dunnes and a tesco, both of which are well stocked. theres a few boots in here, one of which is very well stocked and another is purly a chemist. theres also a couple of options of alternative medicine in the health food stores. they also have a two floor easons, a debenhams, an argos, HMV, river island, new look, a-wear and many other shops. and as for food its got cafes, macdonalds, burger king, eddie rockets and more. and there will soon be a new cinema there too! i think the square is very over looked and looked down on just because of the neighborhood and type of person that shops there(dont expect much more the pj’s, animal prints and tracksuits on the shoppers) but personally i dont go shopping to meet people, i go to shop! and the square is great for shopping.

Tallaghtfornias finest shopping centre! I remember when the square was all new and cool and full of promise, you would go out there at christmas and marvel at the really cool christmas decorations and the penguins that moved, it beat switzers window for sure! Now all the novelty is gone, shopping centres have sprouted up everywhere and the square is now bottom of the pile in terms of quality and desirability. The selection of shops is fairly poor, dotted among the cheap tacky never heard of them before shops is the odd high street store where you will be sure of the quality of the goods but other than that its not worth your while. If you like a good browse and a good search for a bargain there are plenty of shops that are filled with random things that you might not find anywhere else in dublin, maybe not even the world!(slight over exageration there) The cinema is a popular attraction but most of the people outside of tallaght who used to trek there now prefer the comforts of dundrum and other modern cinemas. The two main anchor stores in here are tesco and dunnes where many people go to do their weekly shop. Depends on what your looking for but whatever it is youll probably find it somewhere better than the square!

The lovely Square shopping centre, my friend who lives in nearby Knockylon says that they called it the square because they didn’t know how to spell pyramid, the shape of the glass roof peaks. It’s definitely lacking in the shiny, newness that is the Dundrum Shopping Centre and it even pales in comparison to the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre. It is conveniently located near the Luas line, several bus routes, and has a large car park. The Tesco is quite big so it’s a good shop if you’ve got a car or live near enough to the Square. I was recently in the Debenhams and it was cluttered feeling and I found it difficult to find exactly what I wanted. in general, I find the layout of the square confusing as there’s kind of a mezzanine level that has stairs and escalators going to all different sections in different parts. Growing up in NJ the land of the mall, I’m normally quite good at navigating my way around a mall, but embarrassingly enough I’ve gotten lost on several occasions trying to find the exit nearest the Luas! If you’re a fan of American fast food chains the Square isn’t short of them with Burger King, KFC, and McDonald’s being just some of the options. However, be prepared to wait a good 5 – 10 minutes in a queue before even placing your order. The UCI cinemas are a bit dated as well, but nonetheless it was much quieter than some other cinemas on the afternoon I want and we got a great seat. They are currently amidst a big campaign to renovate the Square, so who knows what the future holds!

‘It’s all there in the Square’… well I don’t know about that but some of it certainly is! Most of the major fashion chains have stores here including Debenhams, New Look, River Island and Vero Moda. There are also some other fashion stores mostly aimed at the teen market. Alongside these you’ve got a smattering of pharmacies, including a reasonable sized Boots, a cinema, mobile phone shops, cafes, an Argos, a post office, book shops and supermarkets. So you can certainly get a lot of what you need here. They’ve just started charging for parking but at 1 euro an hour it isn’t too onerous and the Luas stops right outside!

I cannot believe that nobody has written about The Square yet! Does nobody go here any more? Well, I suppose with the new Dundrum town Centre there is not much need to come all the way up here to Tallaght to the inferior shopping centre that is The Square. For me the Square is really handy as it is served by many bus routes and it is not a big as Dundrum so I find it a lot less daunting. However, the quality of shops and selection is appalling. There are of course the usual to be found here in ways of food and entertainment, MacDonald’s, Eddie Rockets, Subway, Burger King and a UCI Cinema complex as well as Internet café. There is also a Tesco and Dunne Stores which are both really big. In fact I think the only reason people still use the Square is to do there weekly shopping in these supermarkets. There is a Boots, Easons, Natures Way, O2 Store and other services as well as a HMV, Virgin Megastore as well as ‘fashion’ and I do use the term loosely for both men and women and children as well as a huge Debenhams!
