Love this pub, one of the classics on Temple Bar. Live music all around the building, but especially fun to enjoy it on the first floor where a combination of request-taking musicians and tap dancers got everyone’s feet stomping.

The craic at Oliver St John Gogarty’s is always good. Every time I went here during my stay in Dublin it was filled up with people. There are live Irish musicians performing every night and that creates a joyous atmosphere of people dancing and having a good time. I also sat outside to eat once and got the seafood chowder, which was excellent.

Sitting here right now, loving this place. Come, have a few drinks and listen to the traditional Irish music. It may be filled with tourists, but it’s a great time and has the Irish music we all want to hear.

The restaurant is located right in a prime location in Temple Bar, and it has different levels in its building. However, it seems that each level is significantly different from each other. First level was rowdy and had live music. Second level was a calmer pub atmosphere, but also will have the occasional live music. Third floor was the classy restaurant. It blew my mind that the people who worked there weren’t quite sure which floor of the restaurant does what. What do I mean by that? My friend and I saw a promotion for a «special 2 course dinner for € 22, daily 5pm to 11.30pm in our restaurant on 2nd floor.» We walked up to the 2nd floor and was seated and given menus that were completely different than the 2 course menu listed in the promotion. When we asked the server about the promotion, he really had no idea and even suggested different pairings of entrees and appetizers we could order so it’ll be less than € 22. Finally he must have talked to someone upstairs on the *3RDFLOOR* because he told us that the 2 course dinner was honored upstairs only. Ok. We head up to the 3rd floor, where it takes us about 20 minutes to even be waited on. The service was terrible. The bartender eventually had to wait on us, and explained that they didn’t expect this Monday to be this busy because most of the staff were off. When we tried to order the 2 course dinner to be shared between me and my friend, someone told us we couldn’t share it and we both needed to order our own food. What? No! We just lied and said that one of us already ate and wasn’t hungry. That was rude. We shared the food anyways. TL;DR: the service sucked and the establishment seems to be three completely different parts that don’t communicate well with each other.

We chose this spot in the Temple Bar district because of the displayed set menu. The restaurant is upstairs. We were the first to arrive for the 5pm dinner shift. Servers seemed a bit annoyed we were there and friendliness isn’t their strength. Hubby and I ordered off the mixed menu: mussels for both, poached salmon for me and the steak for hubby. Food was good, except the steak was tough. This reminded me of an American beach tourist restaurant, a little cheesy, a spot that unsuspecting travels roam into thinking it might be authentic. Everything was decent but the service could be friendlier and more efficient. We are headed downstairs to the bat to hear live music.(I think the downstairs bar gets the great reviews)

Located in a prime busy street in the heart if the temple bar area of Dublin. My girlfriend and I sat outside. We ordered a bottle of wine and the cheese board. It took about 15 mins before a waitress took our order. After taking the order, the same waitress approached our table 20 mins later with the bottle of wine we ordered. She asked if this was the bottle I ordered. I said«yes, that’s the one.» She said«ok» and left with the bottle to the inside of restaurant. We waited about 10 more mins until I entered the restaurant to ask for the manager and find out why the bottle of wine we ordered was not served to us. Just showed to us. Pretty ridiculous. About 5 mins later the same waitress brings us the same bottle of wine but is unable to open it by herself. I don’t mind and open it myself. The cheese board was not explained to us at all about which cheese is which. And the cheese really wasn’t that good. The service here is the worst I’ve seen in dublin. I won’t be returning. They are under staffed with inexperienced waitresses. And the food is about C or B rated. I would eat elsewhere.

Weve been there twice time trough our 5 days visit in Dublin. And I would like to recomend it to all! Nice place, friendly staff, superb food, live music and awesome looking irish interior. Ive try two meals — lamb liver with bacon in sauce with onion and fries and salad as a side and on our second visit Ive choose Beef in Guinness caserole and all I can say is — this is absolutely awesome! Next time if Im arrive to Dublin, Oliver St John Gogarty is my first choice! :-)

I rarely write reviews — good or bad — but the food at Gogarty was worse than awful. Four people in our party ordered the fish and chips from the bar menu — all fish had large bones and skin was still on. Gross! On top of that, the table hadn’t been cleaned from the last patrons, the oysters we ordered weren’t shucked — had to do them ourselves, service was incredibly slow and when we asked to speak to the manager, took 15 min. for her to come to our table. She said she would remove 1 order of the bad fish — even though all 4 orders were bad. When we asked if she would want to eat a meal like they served us — she simply said«I don’t eat fish.» Really? Steer clear of this place — completely awful — at all levels!

Worst experience ever! Food was awful and the service was just as bad. Oh where to start… seated at a dirty table littered with all kinds of extra menus, advertisements and coasters. We ordered the oysters as an appetizer and they were not chucked properly. Didn’t have the beer I ordered and the waitress said they had on tap. Read some reviews about the fish and chips being amazing and they were far from it. Fish was filled with bones, the salad was so strange I wouldn’t touch it and the fries where cold and mushy. Worst meal I’ve had in Dublin and I still left hungry :(

This place is awesome, it really has everything I went to Ireland for, great food, great drinks, great staff and the craic! We headed up to the restaurant on the first floor for our meal on Saturday, I had the Molly Malone pie, which is a seafood pie with mash potatoes top. Loads of lovely chunks of super sweet white fish and mussles in a rich and tasty cheesy sauce, a slice of home made brown bread and a bucket of handcut chips too, once again a delicious meal that I could not finish as the portions are very generous. Keith had a selection of seafoods wrapped in a smoked salmon and that too came with different homemade bread, oh that bread was lovely too. He also had a bucket of chips and I think some salad. With a couple of glasses of wine a beer and a coffee this meal came in at about € 57 so considering it was one of the meals that I know I shall remember for a long long while, and considering the super service and lovely atmosphere I consider this a good value restaurant, add to this the smoking area is outside but apparently all under cover(I didn’t see it of course but they did make a point of advertising how nice it was) the ground floor bar, which we called into on Sunday afternoon for a drink and ended up staying for an hour to enjoy the singers with their fiddle and accordionist, this pub and restaurant has that famous Irish craic. When we return to Dublin we shall definitely be paying the Oliver St. John Gogarty another visit.

Oh man, words can’t describe how much I loved this place. One of my favorite hang-outs in Temple Bar. During my two weeks in Dublin, my buddies and I came here at least every other night. The first thing I remember is coming here during my first night the city, jet lagged, with a group of German students I just meet. As soon as we walk in, I see two Irish dancers, one male one female, doing this crazy River dance around each other. It was crazy and the faster and as the music got faster, so did they. Apparently, this happens every night there. Man, I meet the coolest people here from almost every country you country you can imagine. One minute I’m speaking to someone from Denmark, the next minute I’m talking to a girl from Turkey. Service is a bit slow, I’d admit. You might have to wait a while for your drinks. Bartenders here don’t seem to be in a rush to do anything. They might just stare at you for a couple minutes until they ask if you want a drink. They have decent selection of draught dark beers here from all over Europe. It was hilarious to see Bud Light listed as an «Import» here. For the first time in my life that beer was one of the most expensive. Speaking of cost, the prices here for everything is super expensive. This can be considered a quasi-tourist destination, even though a lot of locals come here too, so they jack the price. With tax, I paid almost 10 euros for one beer. Geez! Can’t say I didn’t have a good time though. I highly recommend this bar to anyone who wants the real Irish experience while they’re in Dublin. The place is always lively, packed and you’ll have tons of fun here, although you’ll find you can easily blow tons of cash at Gogarty without even realizing it ;-)

Volltreffer!

If you’re only going to be in Dublin for a few days and are looking for the, «traditional Irish experience», make this your place. Gogarty’s had it all. A multilevel venue of pure fun offering live traditional Irish music, Step Dancing, and all the usual suspects one would find on a Irish comfort food menu. The fish n’ chips in particular, served with a garlic aioli, was outstanding! Service was slowly efficient yet pleasant. I stopped in here on a Monday night so the place was only about half full. None the less, the Crack was on! There were two dancers from Riverdance performing who blew the roof of the place. They were really quite something to see actually and engaged the audience in some crowd participation. Such fun! Yes, OSJG is touristy, perhaps even cliché, but if you know what you’re walking into here, you could quite possibly have the time of you’re life. I will always make a return visit here when ever I am in the great city of Dublin. Highly recommend!

Gogarty’s is a fun pub. They stay open late on the weekends, til 2am. I just went for a drink and it was very crowded, but not too overwhelming. Most of the pubs in Temple Bar are packed, so you know that’s what you’re in for when you go out in that neighborhood. There was great live music playing when we went and they also had face painting for 4 euro. Things like a pint of Guinness or a shamrock. Definitely worth getting. It’s a fun place to go out!

Great pub with live music daily. I’m an American tourist traveling alone and I liked this bar a lot. The pints of Guinness and wine are 5e and 6e, respectively. Not bad! Meh. I was grossly underwhelmed by the pub’s mediocrity given all the hype. Smithwicks Red went for € 5,75 though I am not sure if that is the after 11pm price(what the hell is that all about, anyway?) The sound quality was really bad. I appreciate the live Irish music but I couldn’t understand the musicians when they were speaking into the mic and I was sitting no more than 5 meters away. Fellow Americans, please do not come to Ireland and order Coors Light. Just because they have it does not mean you buy it. Not only is it double the home price, Smithwicks so good! Better yet, just skip this bar all together.
