I didn’t really know what would be a fair score for this pub. Nothing wrong with it, per se, but on a busy Saturday night it can be jammed and it’s one of those places that’s a nightmare to move about in or get to the bar. But on an afternoon like today, when it’s quiet but the(real) fire is lit and the hot port a warming and festive delight, it excels. The barman didn’t let us move from our seats for our stay, which is an added bonus.

Nice pub, friendly staff and locals. Very good pint of Guinness, this is my usual measure of the quality of a pub and I give this one 4⁄5. Just caught the game here on Saturday, it was quiet, but very pleasant. Our drinks were brought to our table every time which was great for the lazy Saturday afternoon reveller. Headed off to the Kilbeggan Brewery afterwards for a tour and tasting(and before you ask we had a lift :)) which I will review later on — but its worth the trip!
