We stayed here over the weekend and I dont think we’ll stay again. Upon arrival the free parking and kind welcome by the reception staff gave us high hopes for our stay. Check in was seem less and the reception staff were very obliging. I did note on arrival that the hotel looked significantly smaller than it appeared on it’s website. Our room was of decent size, as was the adjoining bathroom. We did note the lack of air conditioning which led to a bit of overheating at night time. The bed was comfortable and the hotel provided our extra pillows as requested. We had dinner in the hotel our first night. There was little to know atmosphere in the restaurant. If you one stayed very quiet music could be faintly heard. We were one of only 4 tables dining. But noting the attention we got from the staff, you swear they were packed. Anytime we needed a waiter, waitress, we had to actively seek one out. Our server was extremely pass remarkable on the way we ate, commenting on how I hadn’t eaten one item on my main. When we finished we were waiting over 10 minutes for a bill. Before losing patience I sent my partner to the desk to ask for it. After this they never collected it. Another 10 minutes past and we were still sitting there, sans drinks, meal finished awkwardly watching the staff avoid any eye contact whilst they served the ONLY other table left. Eventually I brought the bill to them. My dissatisfaction written across my face. Our change was handed with little talk and after doing so the waitress immediately started a conversation with the waiter. I didn’t tip. I think people who dont tip are jackasses. But I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I considered speaking to management but they were equally difficult to find. We had a drink in the bar after. We were served without eye contact or any manners. Again we had to hound for the bill… It really put a dampener on our first night and I was quite upset. I had high hopes. Had I known this would have been our experience, I’d have eaten in an other Restaurant in the town. We had very little interaction with the facilities after this, bar breakfast. Which was very nice. However BOTH days I had to hand our milk jug back because it was dirty(what appeared to be gravy) first day this was greeted by a sigh… Sorry I never knew clean dish ware was a special request… I actually burst out laughing when it happened again the second day. I was waiting for someone to tell me I was being pranked. Overall food&beverage service was atrocious. I’d recommend for stay as room was comfortable. But give dining and drinking there a big olé miss.

Location was perfect, right in the city centre. When we checked in the staff was very friendly and helpful. Once we got up to the room I was fairly disappointed with what we got. Very old fashioned room, old furniture, not very clean and thin walls. At night it was noisy, our room was above the entrance of the parking and also a lot of noise coming from the hallway. Next morning we checked out, only thing the receptionist could say was ‘room number’, no interest in whether we enjoyed our stay or whatsoever, not even a goodbye. All with all, I paid a lot of money as I booked two weeks before, rooms old and not great, staff depends. Wouldn’t recommend it.

We stayed for a night, room only, and were really impressed. It’s a nice looking hotel, with its own covered parking round the corner and situated right in Waterford so it’s very easy to get into town. Staff were super friendly and helpful, the rooms were pretty large. They’re relatively plain in décor I think for a boutique hotel, but beds were comfy and the shower was great! We didn’t need a big meal, but if we had, the restaurant had a very reasonable 3 course dinner offer which we would definitely have taken advantage of. Again, from a peek round the door, the restaurant looks like a nice place to go whether you’re in residence or not. Our deal didn’t include breakfast, although it is available. We chose to go to Waterford centre instead, knowing it’d be a bit cheaper there. Definitely would recommend this hotel– especially for the room price.

Poor circulation throughout the halls to the rooms and in the room, made for a stuffy atmosphere. The pictures that are posted of the hotel(on a search engine) must be from when the hotel was new… not inaccurate, but they definitely embellish the current state of things. Ground floor men’s toilet was smelly and it’s floor left a sticky residue on the underneath of my shoes. They left a noisy trail of footprints of whatever it was back to the front desk. My room was not near as nice as any depicted on the internet, and had one narrow window with a very limited opening. Noise from the not so near street was not constant but loudly dumbed into the room. Alley down below our window offered some louder noises as well though less frequent. I would say that this particular room is suitable for a visitor who plans to come in late and just(attempt) sleep, but a place for peace and quiet and relaxation-NO WAY! I have had a lot better for a lot less $, but in all fairness-I have had a lot worse for a lot more $!

I stayed in the Fitzwilton for 2 nights in February 2012. I live in the same region, and I’m very familiar with Waterford City, so I had my own preconceptions at what the hotel might be like. The Fitzwilton was quite good, though I wouldn’t call it 4-star. The hotel has extremely limited on-site parking, but it’s small and awkward to get to, and you are much better off paying for the on-street parking on the quays a short walk from the hotel. I found the staff to be efficient and friendly — a pleasant welcome. The hotel is well laid out, and seems to be in good order. My room was good-sized, bathroom in tip-top condition, and the bedding was very comfortable. My booking was with a group voucher scheme which included 1 evening meal in the noisy bar downstairs. The meal was fine, I wasn’t expecting much as the deal had a limited menu and I’m vegetarian, but my pasta was fine. The breakfast the next morning was really very good indeed; lots of choice in the(far better) hotel restaurant. Very attentive and friendly staff, one of the highlights. The only downside to the hotel is because it’s in a town popular for younger weekend visitors, there’s lots of night-time noise with gangs of revellers tramping up and down the corridors late at night. This is endemic in modern Ireland, and not the fault of the hotel. However, if you’re hoping for a quiet or a peaceful stay, this is not the place; the south-east of Ireland has lots of choice *away from the cities* where you can find peaceful relaxation in beautiful surroundings. If I was staying overnight in Waterford again, however, the Fitzwilton would be my preferred choice.
