Amazing experience! Cozy place, friendly chief, personal service and extremely authentic Sardinian food. The food reflects all the nature and flavors we had experienced during the trip. 5 courses for 45EUR. After spending a week traveling around the amazing Sardinia we finally decided to try Mabrouk about which I had read many excellent reviews before. The receptionist in our hotel approved that Mabrouk is the most famous restaurants in Alghero. There were so many people waiting outside till someone leaves the table therefore don’t be too late to the dinner!

We visited the restaurant during our honeymoon and enjoyed the very homely setting. The radio was playing loud music for the chefs, and people carried groceries out and into the kitchen. We where quickly served water, quite nice tasting local white wine, bread and the first starters. Four antipasti plates which where great or good– octopus salad, some cevichelike salad vid peaches, a tomato-garlic spread on a crisp flat bread and swordfish in a salad. After this came mussels– good but not overly tasty. Then followed pasta– three dishes, the first tomato based and nice although not too exciting. From here it was however downhill. The final pasta was an interesting but not very tasty gnocchi with octopus ink. Mains where scampi, followed by fried calories followed by a whole fish. Sounds great on paper but scampi was tasteless, as was the calamari. Worse was the fish that we left after a few bites as it tasted of mud. By then we where however pretty full so it didn’tatter that much. We got a choice between several deserts and both chose a nice bowl of cherries. Service was rapid and nice throughout and the restaurant full of local families of all ages, making it a nice setting for the meal, and the concept, to just be served stuff, is nice, but if it is consistently good food you are after, look elsewhere.

A Tipp for foodies and lovers of fish and sea food. The small restaurant in the old town of Alghero has no menu. You get served what is good and fresh: 3 kinds of starters, pasta, fish or seafood and dessert. This is accompanied by white wine and water. Great quality and outstandingly prepared. Hostess Antonietta treats you to the best from the sea in a beautiful ambiance. The restaurant is not very large it is better to book a table. Price per person about 30 Euro.
