Novoli is a culinary wasteland even though it’s only 10 minutes away from Florence core. Our Florence offices are nearby and we scoured the area to find a decent meal. This casual restaurant is super packed but we’re not certain why. Service is rude and lacking. Food quality was a bit plain though the octopus was a definite highlight… and the general atmosphere was ridiculously loud where I felt like I was in a night club. Even though we made reservations ahead of time… they were really unprepared for us. We arrived with a large group(20+ people) and it’s great that it could accomodate us. Unfortunately the wait staff really gave us the impression they didn’t want us. Between of our size, they divided our group into two tables. This is fine but they only gave us one waiter to handle us… and they failed miserably. No English is spoken and that’s ok but the rudeness was truly apparent as we tried to use our iphone apps to help pronounce things in Italian. They were clearly understaffed as they didn’t even bother to move another wait staff into our area. The manager nearly yelled at one person at our table because one person took 4 pieces of the steak from the shared plate and the waiter wanted to send the plate to the other table. They clearly didn’t give us enough food on the shared plates. Food is better than any tourist trap but overall, none of it sparked any culinary delight. Flavours were either boring or muted because it had ingredients out of season. Overall, bad service, poor planning, and medicore food made the lasting impression.
