As regards English Language selections: Not huge, not complete, not discounted, and not wanting retail prices(less than airport prices). If you’re looking for Italian, then the reverse– huge, complete, lots of discounts, mind-numbing variety. But this is Italy, so save the sob story and buy something.

An amazing, huge bookstore in the heart of Firenze. I bought 5 books but it was so hard to choose. There are tons of books here in many languages, and also DVDs and CDs.

Rating des Ortes: 3 Florence, Italy
Maybe it’s because of , maybe it’s my lack of funds, maybe it’s because 98% of the time I am at the library. .. I hardly ever buy books anymore. But every now and then, I do enjoy browsing the bookstores. I find Mel Bookstore less claustrophobic than Edison, or the other smaller bookstores in town. It might actually be the largest bookstore in Florence. It is equipped with a vast selection of books, music, movies, and a café’. The two coolest things I have bought here were(1) my paolo coelho 2012 agenda book(bought in mid-Feb –50% off) and(2) my golden stabilo gel pen. There never seems to be a lack of staff and with two separate cashiers at each entrance, I have never had to wait in a line, a new experience for me here :) I’d say my only disappointment is their café. I came to get a coffee and sit at one of their tables one day, but the barista already cleaned and closed the machines, thus not serving coffee anymore. There was still a good 20 minutes until the store closed. .. how lame! I was able to get a hot tea that cost € 2.4 … for a cup of tea… a TEACUP of tea. I realized when I sat down, that this price was the ‘siting at table’ price, I don’t think I sat more than 10 minutes before he came around and told me they were«closing and I need to finish up» aka get the $#%$ out… Don’t think I’ll be back to the bar again here, but this bookstore has great sales(in February) and it’s worth a look if your in the book browsing mood or want to actually BUY a book :)
