This is one of the evergreen pubs in Florence, you know when you say: «What do you wanna do guys?» «Let’s check out Rex pub» kinda thing. It’s roomy but quite always crowded with people, there’s music with a dj set and raised layers tables all around the walls, two sides of the bar, a private room that some rent for events and a reddish look ambient with dark wooden furniture to relax your eyes. On the menu you’ll find classic cocktails and, what is to appreciate, a long list of whiskeys to enjoy. Prices are standard, around 8 – 10 €.

This bar is awesome, plays awesome music and has awesome drinks. I recommend the bellinis– they make a mean bellini. The bar is usually crowded so try to go early and get a table to sit at. There is one bathroom so that can get to be a bit of a long line, but the bartenders and atmosphere is awesome. This is in a side street in Florence in the Santa Croce area, and is perfect if you want to pregame for a club, or you’re looking for more of a chill night. The drinks are about 7 – 8 euros, but is way better value than the clubs in florence considering they serve it in a tall glass. Go to rex and have a great time!

Let’s face it. Florence lacks a good night life scene. Rex, named and awesomely styled after the glorious transatlantic, has been uninterruptedly popular and going strong since the early 90s, putting it in the forefront of the Florence nightlife scene by default, especially if you are not in your 20s anymore(or your 30s, for that matter) and the formerly-cool-now-unhip-hipster Santo Spirito scene is just too adolescent for you. Like any other place, it’s hit or miss on what night you’ll get – it can range anywhere from major sausage-fest to improvised burlesque extravaganza. And the line in the ONE bathroom can get pretty crazy. BUT, get there early, get a table, people watch, fatihfully witness the place fill-up, hope for a good DJ and you can dance like crazy with no cover charge unitl 2am — unheard of in Florence. The staff is pretty and the drinks are strong. That helps. A lot. This only on a Friday and Saturday, of course – this is still Florence.

Nightlife in these parts is rampant, which might have contributed to the Jersey Shore peeps showing up in Florence several weeks later(back in 2011). Rex Café wasn’t where we were planning to end up, but it was open, had that relaxed ambience, and was almost empty since it was still early for the night. This place is the bomb for being so chill about all the crap we pulled that night, and for looking/acting so classy at the same time. It’s more of a nice lounge than a bar, dressed in smoky shades of red and blue. The crowd that eventually showed up was a mix of Italian and American peeps in both casual and dressy wear, and they all seemed very cool, making RC the perfect place for a night out. Not good for dancing. The staff was amazing too, super accommodating and willing to try out flaming kahlua shots despite not having ever done them before. Unfortunately, one of our friends almost drank his shot without blowing the fire out first due to some heavy inebriation. But, the real moment of the night might’ve been when the same dude bought a tray of beers without realizing that his friend had already ordered a separate tray. Bottom line is that Rex has a more lounge-like and classy vibe than your typical bar, but it also seems to like when crazy peeps like us drop in.

also on the top list of awesome bars in Florence. Vibe is a hipsters dream with all sorts of kitsch furniture and hidden tables. Despite being famous among the locals, this bar has not raised prices. Drinks still remain very affordable and tasty, I like the mojito & piña colada. They also do aperitivo but I have not gone in a long time to eat so I can’t really say if it’s good or not. I would get there early if you want a seat and is tends to get VERY crowded come 11pm.

Last night I went out for some drinks with my friends to Rex Café. It was a mix of bar/lounge and had an artsy feel to it. Good for a few drinks before going to a club or after dinner. It has really comfy chairs and nice couch. The walls are a rich red with some cool posters(i thought it was gorgeous). Also, the drinks were 6 to 7 euros. I had a mojito! Very good. I have not tried the food yet though!
