The was highlight of our time in Tuscany. Our host recommended this place and it was amazing. The cacio e pepe in the wheel of cheese was the highlight. We had an amazing bottle of wine and the steak for two. This was the best meal we had while in Italy. The customer service was not that great though.

Decent food. Could find better/worse food in Florence. However, service was the worst we have had in Italy as a whole. Extremely rude from the beginning when we walked in to when they were asking to leave because they were getting busy. Throughout the meal they were continuously checking our plates to see if we were done. The first check was within 5 minutes of receiving our food. They had let too make people make reservations and were trying to rush people out. Extremely extremely rude!

As a study abroad student in Florence I can say this is absolutely one of my favorite places to go. The Rigatoni 13 Gobbi with Tomato and Mozz(it’s in red font on the menu) is a MUST. It somewhat tastes like an American Vodka Sauce pasta but 13 times better. The best part of it all is the end where it’s the cheesy sauce left. Eating that alone would be unreal. Not only is the food great but the house red wine of 13 Gobbi is great. The location is somewhat hidden like a hole in the wall which makes it seem more authentic. ALSO! It gets really hot in there so wear something you can take off or nicely ask them to turn the heat down! They did it for us!

Quite literally the worst service I have ever had the misfortune of coming into contact with. We only had service from our waiter when we «flagged» him down, which was 3 times in 3 hours(he did remove our plates but never asked about our experience). Once to order dinner, once to order more wine, once to order dessert. He never brought the check. We had to ask for it at the counter. Why did we just take it? We had ordered wine… twice. We were almost making a game of it. «How long will they let us just sit here?» We started discussing what to have for breakfast! The steak florentine was good. Ordered medium rare and it was quite rare, but I’m okay with that. The side salad I ordered for € 6 was, honestly, one piece of green lettuce and one piece of red. Maybe they just don’t care for Americans at this restaurant. Check my other reviews. I don’t routinely leave poor ones. What’s sad for this restaurant is that my company sent us here, and this restaurant will now be removed from the recommended list. That’s 180 people a week, 8 weeks a year. That’s a lot of customers gone.

One of my favorite meals in Italy by far. I’ll keep this review brief and to the point. Please get the lobster gnocchi and rigatoni. And the chocolate cake. So so good! The caprese salad and eggplant parmesan were both yummy too. We were completely satisfied at the end of the meal. Also, the place draws a mixed crowd of locals and tourists if that is any indication!

Trattoria 13 Gobbi provided me with the best meal I’ve had in all of Italy thus far. After having a HORRIFIC experience earlier the same day at Il LATINI(don’t eat there), Gobbi was a pleasant surprise. After a failed attempt of ordering in Italian, the waiter was funny, charming and attentive throughout the meal. He challenged me to practice my Italian ordering skills without being condescending and always checked that we were content with the meal. THEFOOD: To start my mom had the white bean soup(better than my grandmothers, which is saying a lot). Which my mom gave the holy grail of all compliments to. My dad and I split the tortellini meat ragu. Delicious tortellini. I could have licked the plate clean. For our main my mom and I split the steak florentine for two, rare. It was buttery and cooked to PERFECTION. There was 3 large pieces of fat but I am convinced that is what gave it such intense delicious flavor. For dessert we had the chocolate cake and three scoops of vanilla gelato(you have to order the two separately) but OMGEATTHEMTOGETHER. I had to close my eyes the chocolate cake was so good. I wanted to keep eating until I was beyond full because the food at Gobi was out of this world.

Easily one of my favorite spots in Florence, and maybe one of my top five or ten favorite dishes of all time — the rigatoni is so amazing, I could probably eat it every day for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy. I’ve tried to find something similar in the States and it just always comes up short — the tomatoes, cheese, and perfectly al dente pasta hardly even exist here, let alone are easily available for a pretty low price.(I really miss Italy.) We also love the chitarroni with garlic, oil, and bacon, although it’s definitely a clear number two. We’ve also gotten the bruschetta and eggplant parm, although I will say that those have been somewhat more hit or miss. Regardless, the pastas — particularly the rigatoni — are such a draw that the rest is just a bonus.

This is what one would expect from an Italian restaurant. The décor, the atmosphere, the people… Everything! We made reservations to have dinner at this place. I’m very glad we did as it was packed! I had a Florentine steak med rare and it was really yummy. I also ordered a side dish of rosemary potatoes. I had white wine which was really tasty. The dish was pricey but the size of the steak is huge! very filling dish! The staff was friendly but as they were really busy service was slow. It took more than 20 mins to get our bill. I would definitely recommend this place. I. would book in advance tho as it was really busy.

A highly recommended restaurant by our host, my boyfriend and I attempted to eat dinner here on our first night though we were turned away as the kitchen closed at 11. So, we came back the next day and we were happy we decided to do so! First, the ambience. It is very home, lights are dimmed, and surrounded with wine boxes which was my favorite piece of the décor. Waiters spoke English fluently which was great. Second, the wine. A huge selection to choose from between reds and whites. They have a great selection of high end wines that are marvelous though we stayed conservative with a 2011 Fontodi Classico which was super tasty. Lastly, the food. We paired our Fondoti with prosciutto and mozzarella. The second course was their classic rigatoni dish — a must have if you go. The dish is plenty for one person or to split for two. We ended the three course meal with a Florentine steak for two with a side of mashed potatoes. The steak was one of the best tasting steaks I have had and that is compared to five star steakhouses in NYC. This is definitely a contender for taste. I would recommend keeping the steak rare, it is the best way to enjoy the steak. It’s prepared properly so don’t think your getting a very bloody steak, rather it is pink with a slight red center with lots of juices. Overall, I highly recommended having dinner here!

This spot came highly recommended. My family liked it, but didn’t rate it as one of our top meals. Definitely stay away from the fish, but order the bistec Florentine(it is huge and cooked perfectly; it always fascinates me how different the texture of steak can be around the world even though it is technically the same meat), and the pasta with the black truffles(it was UNREAL).

Fantastic! I had an excellent meal here last week. The service was great, food was delectable from every bite, the décor and ambiance is adorable and they brought me out some free prosecco for politely asking me to wait and then switch tables. I had the rigatoni which was so good I might dream of it later and the sliced steak. I know Florence is known for their steak but it was cooked perfectly and was so tender and juicy. I also had a small bite of the chocolate cake dessert by making friends with a neighboring table of spaniards. That was also incredible. Make a reservation. It’s great!

Expected more from this Florentine Applebee’s. Flair on the walls, not on the wait staff. Buffalo Mozzarella was standard operating procedure. Tuna Castiglione resembled a Fancy Feast Commercial. Porcini Tagliatelle was good to quite good. House wine was excellent. Gnocchi was served over a bed of meatless lobster carcass sauce. Once again, the house wine was excellent.

This is an Italian Bistro at its finest. * Loud * Packed * Lots of wine * Fast moving waiters * Dark * Amazing food * Art covered walls We had to order the Steak Florentine and it did not disappoint. The piece of meat was bigger than my head, it was cooked and seasoned perfectly. This restaurant is a must, make a reservation to be sure you get in. We give it 4⁄5 boots

This was my favorite meal in Italy. We tried to call the week of to make a dinner reservation, but it was all booked up. But they had plenty of spots open for lunch, only about half full when we left, so I think it’s worth dropping in for lunch if you’re nearby! Like everyone else has said — this is the place to go for bistecca alla Fiorentina. At lunch they had a regular portion(25 euro) was well as the monster 1kg portion(50 euro). We split a regular bistecca with a side of… wait for it… butter chicken! I’ll have a side of meat with my meat, please. Both were amazing and well worth the price, but what surprised us was how juicy the butter chicken was! Oh and we started by splitting a plate of tortellini ragu — also delicious, but my memories of Sostanza is clouded by all meat that followed. Just one more thing — the owner(I think) took our order and brought us our food, and he was so.freaking.nice. Completely genuine — very happy to answer our all our questions, and offered to split our steak in half when we said we were sharing. He took a lot of pride in his food, and for good reason! This was our best restaurant experience in Italy, well worth the price, and I couldn’t eat the rest of the day!

Late review: went to this place based on reviews on Unilocal. When we walked in, they seated is in this awesome little booth for two(or four if you are skinny) which was designed like a train suite(the maitre’ called it the«Orient Express»: we still debate whether this was a racial jab or not, but we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.) Food was great(and bread was horrible as everyone else says, but that in our opinion is just how bread is in Florence.) Had a great bolognese as well as florentine steak, service could have been better but nothing to really be upset about. Would definitely go back.

After learning that our original restaurant choice was closed on the weekends, we decided to give this place a try after seeing the glowing reviews on Unilocal.Located in a dark, long alleyway, we thought it must be a local, hidden gem — only to enter into a room full of American tourists. Since we didn’t have a reservation, we were seated in the dark corner room. We took a glance of the beautiful back garden as we walked to our reject room — yes it’s gorgeous so make sure to make reservation if you want the best table! We went with their signature rigatoni with buffalo mozzarella in pomodoro sauce and gnocchi with zucchini in lobster sauce. Both dishes tasted just fine but unmemorable. The rigatoni was especially on the smaller size — definitely order an appetizer or a second plate — or hope you are getting a second dinner later. Our server was sweet and took his time in explaining/translating the menu again and again. But as the dinner progressed, we could tell he was slightly overwhelmed and we felt somewhat forgotten(asking for check/getting change). With cover charge + water, our meal came out to $ 34 euros and we felt far from satisfied. It’s an okay restaurant choice if it’s just down the street — but def not worth a taxi ride(so many pulled up just to drop off patrons for this restaurant)!
