Food overcooked, negating freshness of ingredients. Good wine selection. Service attentive but cursory and seemed resentful we were not ordering big plates. The atmosphere was a cozy, small Trattoria off the main shopping and tourist area. Quiet and unhurried. Granted, restaurants set high standards in Tuscany, but after two weeks I feel calibrated. Fair dining experience but not up to Firenze standards.

Get the tripe, get the pork, get the steak. Get everything! We stumbled on this while walking about. It wasn’t opened so we waited around. Worth the wait. We met 2 elegant ladies from Lake Tahoe that made the lunch even more remarkable. Definitely a place to go back to.

I went here while on my honeymoon based on other reviews and top restaurant reviews for Florence; very disappointing with food– it wasn’t bad but it just wasn’t great as I expect to get better Italian than I do back home. On a positive note I really enjoyed the family style atmosphere– nothing fancy but nice! With only 5 nights in Florence I feel bummed I wasted one here

I just went here for a quick lunch with a friend and I was really disappointed with our experience. Starting off with what I liked about the place, the interior is charming, very much like eating at an Italian family home, plus the service was quite good, everyone was nice and the place seems to be family run which is really nice. I appreciate that. The problem I have with Coco Lezzone was the food and the price. Me and my friend both ordered pasta & fagioli soup which if you know Tuscany, you know this dish — Very much a local comfort food and I normally. Literally 3 minutes after we ordered, two watery bowls of ‘pasta e fagioli’ were placed in front of us. 3 minutes? I wish they would have pretended by keeping it out just a few minutes longer. The pasta was limp and the beans were few, it felt a bit like what you would eat at a prisoner camp, on a positive note, the olive oil on top was great! We weren’t too hungry but we decided to go for dessert, I got the crème caramel, my friend a tiramisu. Both were just ok, nothing to write home about. We skipped coffee and paid the bill which is when the real shocker came. 39.00 euros for what was basically a very very light lunch. This meant 9 euros a pop for the very shallow-dished water soup, and a high service charge. Water was 2 euros a bottle and not for a liter but half liter, seriously! And dessert was 7 euros a piece which is insane, at least for that dessert. I have had desserts for less with at least some attempt at presentation, which I would have 100% overlooked if it was truly remarkable. I really couldn’t believe I was spending 20 euros for water, soup and a dessert for 30 minutes of a meal. I think places like this should really think about offered a lunch menu that is something to write home about. Take a lesson from Trattoria di Mario or Chicco di Caffe and try to impress your guests, not leave them feeling jipped like I did. Sadly it was probably the worst meal I’ve had in some time. Highly recommend nearby Hosteria il Desco, or Trattoria di Mario in San Lorenzo, Chicco di Caffe in santo spirito, all which have traditional Tuscan food for the right price, not this ‘lets overcharge tourists bit’. There are so many awesome traditional restaurants(Like trattoria brindellone) that are so much better than this place.

Get the roast pork… no wait… get the steak fiorentina… no the pork… no the steak… OMGGETBOTH! As a matter of fact, for for lunch and get the pork, then go back for dinner and split the steak, and get a side plate with veggies and some wine while you’re at it for both meals. And when you’re done, get the tiramisu and then go home and smack your mama, because it’s that good. Or maybe get the sausage and white beans, that was amazing too… it was all just awesome home cooking… like… it felt like I was hanging out grandma’s house. No frills, just great home cooking. Other things you should know: CASHONLY. Be good to Tony, the server — he’s awesome and speaks Italian, Spanish and English. Oh, and don’t even think about asking them to cook the steak any particular way, just trust the system. Trust me. Trust me. Mmmmmmmmmm.

Perhaps coasting a bit on its reputation. Lunch for two starting with a nice mixed green salad and hand sliced, uneven excellent Tuscan salami. A half liter of good house white wine. A rather bland vitello tonnato, sauce mostly mayonnaise with a slight tuna flavor. My wife had veal scaloppine, pre fried with a nice fresh tomato sauce. A contorni of mixed zucchini and green beans was fresh and well done. Bill was 50 euros, service not included. Only one group of Italians in the restaurant, all the other diners were tourists, mostly American.

A great little home cooking, family style restaurant in the heart of Florence. Don’t come here for ANYTHING fancy. it is all informal, from the décor, to the service, to the seating, to the food. Large communal tables might find you eating next to one of the Ferregamo family members, in for lunch. Menu changes depending what they are cooking but everything we had was great, simple and traditional. Don’t come here expecting solicitous service or anything that a typical bus bound tourist would expect. We saw several first time family travelers come in, sit down, peruse the menu, ask a couple of questions like«do you have coke» and then leave when they couldn’t find any«Olive Garden» familiar descriptions on the menu. In fact, don’t order off the menu anyway, ask what they just cooked and ask for the red vin santo and biscotti after dinner, it was a great finish to the meal.
