I ordered the seafood pasta here, which came in a delightfully large portion size but turned out to be mediocre. I want to instead highlight a pasta my friend tried: the Tagliatelle da Oscar. It’s is a life-changing pasta, really. Their signature sauce is a gift from the pasta gods to mankind. Let’s just leave it at that– give it a try, you won’t regret it. Everyone is automatically served an appetizer before the meal. We received a delicious egg frittata type dish, which I thought would be complimentary, like bread in restaurants. However, they proceeded to charge us € 2.5 per person for this unsolicited dish, and had it not been so tasty, I would’ve been pretty annoyed. A minor detail, but just wanted to mention it for the more budget conscious travelers out there! Lastly, the service here is great. Waiters are quick, helpful, and genuinely care about your enjoyment of the meal. It’s something that usually can only be found at small, family owned restaurants, and it helped me feel like I was welcomed into an Italian home for a heartwarming meal.

Not bad, but out of all the places I went to in Italy, this place only ranked okay. We came in at around 7pm our first night in Milan. We apparently got there right when it opened, the kitchen wasn’t even open yet. The owner was nice. He still seated us and provided us with water and bread to start. Wasn’t really a fan of the bread, it was very tough, hard to bite into. When the kitchen opened, I ordered the Penne al salmone and my boyfriend ordered the bolognese. I liked my penne, especially the big chunks of salmon. The cream was way too heavy though. It was so heavy, I couldn’t finish my dish. I left about 1⁄3 of it on the plate because I couldn’t eat any more of the cream. My boyfriend liked his dish, but he said it wasn’t the best pasta he had in Italy. Overall, not a bad experience, but not a great one either. Food is decent, just not spectacular.

My boyfriend and I love Da Oscar, which is a friendly family owned Italian Oscar. I was disappointed with some restaurants, so I searched good places to eat through Unilocal. My boyfriend and I think this place is the best in Milan. Variety of food, quality, quantity and price were just great. We went back two-days in a raw. The owner, Oscar speaks very little English even though he went around each table to greet his customers. Sometimes he rang the bell to make announcements or entertain customers with his jokes. His daughter, Maria was very kind and attentative. She spoke good English and assisted us promptly even though we did not book in an advance. She did not reject us. I recommend this place to anybody who is visiting Milan. * I had Carbonara and Peperoncino. These are my favorites and these were excellent! My boyfriend had tomato based seafood pasta and Ravioli. Delicious!

After a two week tour of Italy and lots of pasta, I can firmly say this is just okay in comparison to other places we visited. The Oscar sauce pasta was by far the best — great flavor. The rest was average. I did like the quaint atmosphere — clearly a family establishment that gets local business rather than a lot of tourists. I also liked the area of town it’s in — a nice street to stroll nearby.

Very traditional Italian cuisine. The chef is nice and friendly. Come out say hi to the guests now and then. Very crowded recently because of the growing fame. But the food is worth waiting.

Seriously good pasta. Huge serving size, very well priced. The place was absolutely packed and a waiting list out the door. Wine was especially well priced. Seated family style but between a group of Brazilian prudes and an Italian family. Better luck next time.

I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s get this out of the way — the food was fantastic. But I’ll never come back. Why? Ummm how about because this restaurant is some sick homage to Il Duce and fascism??? What world is this?! I was minding my own business, shoving olives in my mouth and drinking house wine when I suddenly looked up and saw on the wall behind my friends’ head… Hitler? Mussolini? Nazi salute? Whaaat? With growing horror, I realized the whole restaurant was decorated like with Mussolini quotes, busts, photos, etc. Even the house wine labels were emblazoned with face of Mussolini and some Nazi soldier doing the salute. Like Jesus Christ! Is this some sick joke? I don’t understand what just happened tonight. This place has fantastic reviews and I’d concur that the food is great/service is decent… but are we blind? Like did no one noticed the freakin Hitler & Mussolini pictures???

Was looking for an authentic, low-brow, home cooking styled joint and this fit the bill perfectly. Packed with locals, run by family, with lots of charm in a simplistic surrounding. Oscar’s daughter suggested the Carbonara(amazing), Lasagna(delicious) and Ravioli(great) to start. We then moved on to steak voronoff(cooked to perfection and one of the best mustard sauces ever!!) as well as the mini sausages(only weak plate we had). Accompanied with a well priced wine list, this place was a blast at great value. We’ll be back!

One of our first restaurant stops in Milan. They have daily specials and we were there on Lasagna night. The popular dinner hour in Milan is around 9:00 pm. Better restaurants require a reservation, so if you know you want to try this Ristoranti, ask your hotel to make the reservation for you, if you do not speak Italian. Some of the staff here speak a little English and they are all very nice. We made a reservation for 7:30, which by Milan standards is very early and it was no trouble fitting us in. Most of the seating is family style, so be prepared to sit next to a stranger. Especially if it’s a small party. The walls are covered with photos and the one’s near our table, included historical figures like Hitler and Mussolini AND each one had, who we believe to be the owner, Oscar himself, photo shopped into each one! Very funny. For our party of six they put a large bread basket on the table, two bottles of still water and two bottles of sparkling. A bottle of wine was ordered while we made our dinner selections. Besides the lasagna I ordered a side of spinach and butter(Spinaci e burro) which was served family style and enough for several people to share. The lasagna. It. Was. Amazing! The home made pasta is thin and light. The sauce is very light both in flavor and texture. The cheese is fresh and stringy. The portion was large. We left feeling very satisfied, but not at all stuffed! The spinaci e burro was salty, sweet and I had as much as I could fit in my stomach. Cleaning your plate with bread is often encouraged and lots of bread on the table is a good indication that the restaurant encourages the behavior. So of course we sopped up all the saucy goodness. We ordered three desserts to share. A tiramisu and two types of gelato: a white chocolate with what tasted like coffee ice cream inside and a dark chocolate with a white chocolate interior and cocoa powder over all. Both were creamy and delicious. Most liked the dark chocolate, but I liked the white chocolate with the coffee surprise inside. The tiramisu really ‘wow’s! From first bite it was a sensation. Definitely going back to see Oscar!

We, as foreigners, went there at 19:30 while no Italians start having dinner. That kind made us feel special as the only customers. The lady just introduced us what those Italian dishes are in French(she can’t speak English so that was our only alternative). We ordered two pasta dishes n another meat dish. But as the pastas arrived we knew we won’t be able to finish the food. But we only asked if we could cancel the last dish like twenty mins later. N she said: no problem. She even took away the bottle of water we didn’t drink. Later on, more n more ppl came in n they all seem like old friends of hers. It was totally worth the price. But remember they charge € 2.5 service fee for each person. Great start of Milan trip.

Best pasta we have had in our trip. The portion of the food is very generous but it doesn’t lack in taste. It is only open until 2:30 for lunch and opens again at 7:30 for dinner. It’s not a big place so you will be cozy with other people if it’s pack. Food prices for pasta is pretty good, nothing over € 15 but there is a service charge of € 2.5 per person. I had the spaghetti with seafood and it was legit. Had a good amount of seafood items including clams, muscles, shrimps(not from a can) and squid. The sauce does has a kick to it but not at all spicy. Price € 12 My husband had the ravioli with meat sauce. He said it was the best ravioli he has ever had. Price € 10 I would recommend this place very much if you are in the Milan area and want authentic Italian food. When you order in the meat section then that’s when it gets over € 20. A must try!

Da Oscar is everything you imagine when you think of an authentic Italian family experience. The restaurant is made up of a few long tables so let’s hope you don’t mind sitting cosily beside a new neighbour. In my opinion this adds to the buzz and atmosphere of the place. The menus are up on the wall and the waitresses are the chefs daughters. The chef is an elderly Italian man who frequently appears out of the kitchen and has no problem raising his voice across the whole restaurant. My friend who lives in Milan told me he is extremely well known. I found the whole scenario quite comical! We knew we were onto a winner before the food even came because the restaurant was full of locals! In terms of food we shared a huge caprese salad between the three of us to start. For mains I ordered the steak and my two friends got pasta dishes. The portions are gigantic but each mouthful was better then the last. One of the guys I was with was an Italian from Modena and he was amazed at how much his pasta dish reminded him of his granny’s cooking! For 1 starter, 3HUGE mains, 1 side, 1 dessert, a bottle of nice red wine and coffees our entire bill came to € 90…At € 30 each for fantastic food and memorable experience we all left Da Oscar very happy customers.

Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Italy and definitely my all-time favorite in Milan! Make sure you make a reservation in advance! This is a very cozy restaurant and it is always packed. It definitely has a family feel to it. The entire menu is in Italian so it was hard to understand at first, until the table next door showed us the new google translate app which will instantaneously translate the menu into English after you scan it. Although the seating is very close to the table next to you, you quickly make friends with the people around you. We met another couple from California and had a great conversation with them :). For the food, we got the seafood spaghetti and the T-bone steak. The portions were HUGE! The seafood spaghetti came out in a huge platter and it is definitely to be shared between two people. The T-bone steak was also huge and a great protein addition to all the carb-loading in Italy. I loved both of these entrees equally. As a huge fan of seafood pasta, I can say that the seafood pasta was one of the bests I have had in Italy. The other crazy thing about this place is that the prices are great — each of the entrees were around 20 – 25 euros. For the amount of food that you get, it is great! Not only did we have enough food for two, we had enough food for leftovers the next night. For the wine, we got the house red wine. Basically, house red wine is usually the way to go because it is cheap and 99% of the time, they have been delicious! I highly recommend this place!

Food was okay, the service was good. We had 3 Main pasta dishes. The place is family owned and there were a lot of locals there. I guess we looked like we weren’t from around there so when we got there we got some odd looks, it was a little uncomfortable at first but the staff made us feel comfortable and even gave us free shots of some drink they were all having. Forgot the name, sorry.

We did not have a reservation and the place was overbooked. Luckily the owners daughter made room for us at a communal table The nice thing about a communal table are the people. We met some famous radio stars to our left that we became friendly with and drank wine. To our right was a family we also became friendly with. The restaurant is a local place with no foreigners The dress code is come as you are. Very casual The décor is surrounded with Mussolini décor and photos and berets– apparently Oscar is fixated on him but it works The menu is on the wall and reasonably priced The wine list is not extensive but the prices are really great. We had a 2009 Banfi Brunello for only 45 euro We started with a burratta Pomodoro that was very nice Zuppa di Vongole(clam soup) that was delicious Thin sliced bistecca with rosemary and olive oil that was tasty Spicy spinach sautéed with olive oil and pepperoni We had a delicious dinner, made new friends, had so much fun and Oscar and his daughter are awesome Love Da Oscar!!!

Absolument divin. Si on oublie Mussolini ;-)

Solid four stars. I would probably agree more with their overall rating of 4.5 if I didn’t arrive so early for dinner the evening I had went, but it was my first night in Italy, so I wasn’t aware that dinner was around 8:30 — 10pm for the locals and that tourists arrive around 7 — 7:30pm. Da Oscar was a pleasant experience. Their menu was fairly direct and punctual — everything was was one page. Having only been in Italy for several hours, my boyfriend and I wanted one thing and one thing only: PASTA. I had ordered the SPAGHETTIFRUTTIDIMARE and my other half the GNOCCHIDAOCSAR. Both dishes were prepared and delivered to the table with reasonable time. The Gnocchi had a great chewy texture, with plenty of cheese. My seafood dish had great flavor and the pasta was done to perfection(obviously). With the exception of the owner, who was nice enough to make his way around the small restaurant to greet his hungry patrons, the service from the servers could have been a little more friendlier. Overall, you can’t be mad. It was two great tasting dishes and a nice bottle of wine all under 50 euro.

From the moment they brought us over the € 16 bottle of Chianti Classico uncorked with the cork nowhere in sight, I knew things were off. I have a feeling this place pours random cheap house wine into these bottles of chianti Classico because it wasn’t surprising that almost every table had ordered that bottle and none of the had the bottle opened in front of them, not a single cork in sight. This had been our third attempt to come here because we had seen the reviews on Unilocal and wanted to try the carbonara. The carbonara was decent but nothing special, I make it at home all the time and all the ingredients were there, plenty of eggs, cheese, pepper and ham. It was way too creamy though so see the picture I’ve posted. Then we had ordered the tagliatelle al ragu and penne all’-arrabiata. We repeated our order twice since it was packed and the waiter seemed very distracted. The waiter proceeded to bring us penne al ragu and tagliatelle w porcini. The ragu looked pathetic, worse than a quick ragu sauce Anyone could whip up at home and the waiter kept pressuring us to take the dishes even though they were completely wrong. When we finally said we wanted the penne arrabbiata, they brought out the most ridiculous penne dish that was slightly covered in tomato sauce WITHJALEPENOS. Omg, see picture attached to my review. Everyone around us was a mix of Americans and locals it seemed and a couple sitting next to us said when they came years ago it wasn’t cafeteria style long tables. But I didn’t mind the local casual vibe, I was horrified by the food and wine. Others had ordered gnocchi, steak and veal Milanese but also I noticed none of the food was finished. We also noticed a lot of students come here, I’m guessing for the € 10 prices on most pastas. The daughter of the cook/owner runs this place and she keeps a tight ship. The restaurant was packed on a Saturday night at 8−10pm. The neighborhood isn’t great but we easily accessed it with the 9 tram. If you like your carbonara really thick and creamy, then try it here. But there are plenty of amazing places to go in Milan so skip this place because the service, wine and every other item on the menu isn’t worth it.

Amazing! The best meal we had in Milan! I thought I was back in South Philly. We went at 10:30 pm and it was packed with people waiting outside. I love Unilocal for just this reason! Go where the locals eat — can’t go wrong. We both got the gnocchi oscar and clams in broth. Yup, we ordered two dinners each — it was so freakin good. They were very nice — only waited 15 minutes and they got us in. Oscar is quite the character! What a personality. Don’t even think of not eating here It’s fantastic!

Decided to dine here on our last night stay in Milano since we knew it would be a memorable dinner. House was PACKED to the rim like sardines. Nowhere to sit, to move, to breathe! I got yelled at and denied to dine in since they were overbooked but yelled back and insisted we HAD to dine there since it was our last night. Basically, when I really really want something I don’t back down lol. So naturally I stood there and made them figure things out since I said b*tch, I ain’t going nowhere. Make me a seat! And so it worked, muahaha! Ten minutes later we were enjoying a glass of fizzy wine and laughing at my mandatory ways because at the end of the day ITWORKS almost always. ;-) I had the pleasure of ordering for us and man oh man did we end up with two of the best dishes of all time. Tagliatelle alla Ragu and Gnocchi alla Oscar. The gnocchi was delicate, the perfect texture and was smothered in a cheesy creamy marinara sauce. Slightly spicy, my tastebuds were climaxing and tongue quivering from excitement. Basically that mouth was p*ssy popping for more, moreeeee!!! Tagliatelle was equally amazing. Such a delicious rich Ragu sauce that was in my opinion better than any other Ragu pasta we had in Italy. Their dishes are so inexpensive, costs around 10 € which is cheap for Italy. Service was on point despite being overbooked. Made us an Ecuadoran friend(server) who took care of us the whole night. The woman who yelled at me initially to go away for having no seats was smiling and laughing that I basically got my way and continued with offering great service herself. I think she secretly liked my sternness since she was a tough cookie herself. ;-) We were the only non-locals at the restaurant. If their own people are occupying every seat in the house you know it’s good! Would highly recommend this restaurant if visiting Milano for a true authentic experience. It’s a must!
