Literally the only reason I came to naples was to try the pizza as I’m a big pizza fan. Di Matteo didn’t fail to disappoint. Had the diavola pizza and it was amazing! Good job

Really good pizze! Very, very tasty. The prices were a bit hard to figure — not at all a rip-off, just unsure what we paid for…

«Di Matteo» is an authority in pizza. It’s a pizzeria placed in a little building(it occupies 2 floors of it) in the historical city center of Naples. There you can find the typical Margherita pizza and a huge array of pizzas, plus some fried(typical) entrées. Prices are right for the food, which are very tasty, but the beverages list is really short, especially for beer. Another downside are the rooms, very crowded and small; the waiting time and the service. Since it’s visited by students, Naples people and tourists, and since it also serves food on the street the waiting queue is very long. I had to wait for more than 1 hour. The service is poor: the waiters bring you the cutlery and you have to place them in order, they don’t like to wait a lot for your order to arrive so, if it’s your very first time there and you don’t know what to chooce, you would probably end up writing your order on their block notes by yourself… Food is good, the other points are so so or very low. Update, 21st December: I went there for the second time at night, the weather was cold and waiting outside was just terrible! Anyway, once there I waited a bit for the waiter to arrive but food have been quickly prepared and«served». As it happened during my other experience, the service is still poor. Food is great as always, Margherita pizza with buffalo mozzarella is tasty, fried things aren’t oily. I’ve tried its famous«pizza fritta» which is a fried pizza with ricotta cheese and meat stuffing and a «frittatina» which is basically a fried spaghetti ball with some veggie, meat and above all cheese. All is tasty and not so oily, however you can feel you stomach quite full right after. 3 stars just for the food. No, it isn’t gluten-free nor vegan friendly.

We came here after reading some reviews where they won over Da Michele. We had gone to Da Michele for lunch and came here for dinner. We ordered their pizza fritta, a margarita, and an arancino. The arancino rosso was decent. It’s a fried ball of rice stuffed with cheese and pork I believe. The cheese on the margarita was less chewy than that of Da Michele and the char wasn’t as good. The crust and dough of Da Michele’s is much better. We were joy big fans of the fried pizza which was mostly filled with a mild tasting cheese. Overall we were quite disappointed and regretted missing an opportunity to dine at Da Michele again.

Great pizzas!!! Recommended 100% the only thing is you have to wait for a table, but the waiting was worth it!

Very good Neapolitan margherita pizza in the heart of Napoli. They are absolutely true to form, they use Caputo flour with the right hydration, freshly made bufala mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes, salt, basil extra virgin olive oil — all cooked in the right wood fired stefano ferrera oven — they are«Vera Pizza» and they do it well. Their calzones are also exceptional

This place is a cheap eat, fun but not quality. They bake or fry everything and people line up to snatch hot food. The pizza didn’t fair better, I have no idea why they told me to try Napolian pizza here, but their food was fun to eat at first then I got cramps and realized I’m an idiot.

In my honest opinion, this is the best Naples has to offer. Very busy during peak lunch hours, but well worth the wait. Do things right and just get your own pizza, and make sure you finish the whole thing… no regrets Suggestion — Bufala

Legendary pizza for the price of street food. Di Matteo gets one of the easiest five stars I’ve ever given. Their menu proudly shows then-US President Clinton joyfully biting into a slice of their pizza as the chefs around him embrace, as if pleasing the president was their greatest achievement – but it’s not; serving what is the epitome and soul of authentic Neapolitan pizza, is. Getting a table may be chaotic, and service may seem rushed, but once you are inside and eating, you will be in complete bliss when your mouth is greeted to the perfect combination of just enough gooey mozzarella cheese, fresh basil, fruity tomato sauce, and piping hot dough cooked in an oven with nearly a hundred years of goodness baked into it.(The rich flavor that coagulates into singed parts of the crust does not happen over night.) Thin yet substantially chewy, one 3 – 4 euro pie is just enough for one person. There is absolutely nothing touristy about this; in fact, you’ll be fending off locals for a table. No stop in Naples shall be complete without a most unabashedly obligatory stop at Di Matteo. Come early to avoid waiting. Even before opening, they serve oven-fresh pizzettes and fried foods for a euro a piece.

If you’re looking for a good pizza fritta(and you’re not expecting the best service) this is your place to go. Waiters were rude. Looks like being a Unilocal or trip advisor top rated restaurant allows them to treat clients like crap. Other than that, the other pizzas were ok, but I’d rather go to decumani or sorbillo on the same street to get a better service, same prices and(if not equally good), better pizza.

Pizza is very very mediocre. Probably I chose the wrong toppings. There was ham and cheese and 5 different kinds of vegetables. Flavor was just a bit too much. Appetizer size was also quite small.

Great pizza in the Napoli style. The crust and toppings are excellent. The place is mobbed at lunch but we still got a table. One pizza is enough for two, but they’re so inexpensive, get two! I can’t say that this is the best pizza in Naples as I’m only here for two days, but it was one of the best I’ve had in the three weeks I’ve been traveling in Italy.

Super delicious and cheap! Seems like Bill Clinton ate here once upon a time(well … at least that’s what it seems like from the photo inside). If you’re new to Napolitano pizza it’s definitely worth spending some time watching them make the pizza, use the oven, etc. fun experience! Bottom line is you can’t go wrong here. Seating space is limited so we decided to do takeout. Made for a great breakfast the next day too with leftovers. :)

There’s a question that soon or later pops up in the head of every tourist or traveller just arrived in town: which one is the best pizzeria in Napoli? After having spent about ten years in this city I have realized that the best one doesn’t exist(there are many good ones), but Di Matteo is absolutely my favourite. That’s why one of the first things I do when I have occasion to be in this beautiful city is to go there and eat a Margherita. So if you are in the city centre, you are looking for the best pizzeria and you can’t choose from the ones proposed by your guide, walk straight to Via dei Tribunali. And if this is your first close encounter with the neapolitan pizza don’t get lost in the menu and ask for a Margherita, so far the best way to get started with one of the finest local expertise.

We arrived around 9 pm. This was clearly no good timing. We waited for almost an hour before our name was shouted. It’s a cramped street with a lot of people waiting and scooters passing by all the time(with their intrusive sound and fumes). We took some arancini from the outside takeaway counter while waiting. We really loved the one which was filled with what looked like maccheroni with meatballs. I was lucky that one local pointed it was my turn because the person serving was ignoring tourists. Once inside our waitress was also not really interested in taking our order. This was certainly not usual in Napoli(bad day?). Luckily for us there was a friendly waiter nearby that quickly took our order and made drinks pop up quite quickly. Pizzas(Diavola, Rucola/Crudo, Proscuitto, 4 cheeses) where all great. We can clearly recommend but would suggest to go earlier(before the locals show up) than we did. Worth a wait, but an hour, in the end it’s still pizza.

The pizza is excellent… the best so far anywhere in Italy including several in Naples. Not difficult to find, but appeared to be takeout only from the street; actually has both downstairs and upstairs seating. Very affordable prices, including drinks.

This is the place to eat pizza if you’re in Napoli(Naples). It is the best pizza I have eaten in Italy! There is a brick oven where they bake the pizza to perfection. It has divine fresh vegetables, good quality meats and is a great family place.

Guess this place does not need any further praise. The pizza is v good and v cheap(you pay 2,5 euro for a margherita). I also loved the fried stuff: rice balls, potato fritters, fried pizza. Bill Clinton was here and apparently loved it too :-)

First off, I’m not a local. I was in Napoli working on research and — in my spare time — hitting up the city’s pizzerias in the interest of finding the best one. Of all the time I spent there, the absolute BEST pizza I had was here. It’s down that set of backstreets home to most of the most infamous and revered pizzerias in Napoli, unsurprisingly, and easy to miss if you don’t know where you’re going. The atmosphere inside is very laid-back and informal, which is nice, and the prices are unbelievably reasonable when considering how flavorful and high quality a pizza you’ll get. Also the menu is quite expansive and they have the usual availability of drinks from soda to vino. Also the staff was really friendly and fun, which was nice. So, you might get lost on your way here, but it’s worth wandering around awhile because this place has pizzeria down to an artform.

Überraschung! Wer erwartet von einer Pizza«auf die Hand» das Pizzaerlebnis schlechthin. Für 1,-(!!!) wird ein Margherita-Fladen in ein Stück Papier gerollt und dann… mhm!!! Wunderbar aromatische Tomaten, leckerer Teig! So hat Margherita noch nie geschmeckt! Hingehen und genießen!
