Our Italian friends swear by this place and I can definitely see why! By far a great culinary experience and an even better atmosphere. We were a large group and chose to order a bunch of different plates to share. — Antipasto fritto: a giant platter of deep fried deliciousness. Deep fried zucchini flowers, deep fried dough balls… — Stuffed pizzas: pizza dough stuffed with rapini and sausage and pizza balls filled with tomatoes, sauce and mozzarella — Pizza Margherita«cornice»: pizza with tomato, basil and mozzarella and a «cornice» or «frame» which is basically a very thick crust. — Seafood pasta: this was meant to be a single portion… It could have easily fed half a dozen with so much whole fresh seafood on top… including the cutest mini octopus — Mozzarella and tomatoes: definitely mozzarella with a capital M and if you don’t order anything else, order the mozzarella! A perfect big round ball of moist fresh cheese and a decadent milky interior. I have to be honest and admit that after gorging myself in mozzarella and deep fried everything, I only tasted the rest… and every bite was delicious! The place was lovely, we are in a semi covered exterior courtyard and the restaurant was full of Italian celebrities. The wait staff was great — friendly and familial… and the finally tally with limoncello, grappa and water and wine rang in at 21 € per person! Go with an appetite!

We are from San Francisco, so we’re foodies and know taste. After spending more than a week traveling through Italy, both northern and southern, and an additional 4 weeks in countries around the Mediterranean — my spouse and I agreed that this was the best Pizza we had anywhere. We had about 15 pizza’s throughout Europe and Italy. In typical Napoli style, the crust is not too hard and the pizza is a bit runny. The dough is almost cheese like in it’s pulley, yumminess. Although the presentation is ok, the pizza makes up for in taste. Cheap as well! If you’re wondering the streets of Naples today looking for a place to eat, this is the spot!

I fell in love with the food and hospitality of Florence and didn’t think any other restaurant could match what Florence had to offer. But that was until I came to Pizzeria Mattozzi. Once seated, the owner greeted us with a big smile and took his time conversing with us and giving us recommendations. He was really sweet and tentative to both me and my boyfriend. The waiters were prompt about everything and we were served within minutes of ordering our food. Quick and friendly service — what’s not to love??? And the food was top notch. Large portions for a decent size and everything was fresh and delicious. Our eggplant parm was moist and the texture was perfect — soft eggplant topped with gooey cheese and a fine layer of crunchiness. The pizza was thin but they didn’t go skimpy on the cheese or toppings. And the strawberry tart was the BEST strawberry tart I have ever had. In. My. LIFE. The crust was soft and breakable so it was perfect for sharing. The cream want too heavy and was whipped fine. The strawberries were petite and were ripe but not overly ripe. This tart was topped with a light glaze and there’s a bit of happiness in every bite. So delish! I wish I could’ve taken home the entire pie!!! And before my boyfriend and I left the restaurant, the owner gave me one of the restaurant’s placement mats to go. I was really surprised but I guess he saw me taking pictures of them because each one depicted some part of the Italy, whether it be Capri kr the Almanfi Coast. I give him props for being so observant and considerate of his customers!

Nice atmosphere, packed with both locals and Americans. The wine was served in a lovely hand-painted carafe. I had a gigantic margherita pizza with parmigiano and eggplant. It was so big that I couldn’t finish it. And they say American portions are huge! :o
