Caffe’ Pedrocchi

I only stopped in here briefly for a quick espresso, but I was surprised by the best espresso I have had in Italy.
I saw these girls order a coffee with a peculiar green topping. YOU NEED TO ORDER THIS DRINK. There is a reason why it is so popular. It is essentially espresso with mint foam and a hint of cocoa.
It is called «caffe espresso miscela pedrocchi», and if you leave Padua without having one, you are doing yourself a disservice.

So goes the local saying: «Padova, the city of the three withouts: A café without doors, a valley without grass, a saint without name». Caffe’ Pedrocchi is precisely the café we are talking about, so quintessential it is to the local flavor. In fact, so I’ve heard, back in the day the Pedrocchi used to have no doors at all (the «valley» would be Prato della Valle, the largest square in Europe that come to think of does indeed have greenery, and the said saint would be sant’ Antonio da Padova whom locals insist to call just «el Santo», like there is no other saint they could be referring to).
There has been a long standing superstition surrounding Caffe’ Pedrocchi that states no student from the University of Padova should ever go through it’s entrance: he or she might never graduate. Thankfully I’m not a student, what allows me to enjoy what I consider the best caffe all orzo in town without any worries.
Beautiful ambiance that doesn’t seem to have changed much since it was opened in the early 1800’s, service can be a hit or miss depending on the waiter on shift… do not miss Pedrocchi or you might as well have never been to Padova.

Les prix vont avec,
mais l’incontournable de ce café, ce pourquoi il faut rentrer dedans, ce parce qu’on né le trouve NULLE PART ailleurs, c’est le café à la crème de menthe.
Entrez, dirigez vous vers le bar, commandez ce café et… c’est ce genre d’expériences qui me fait marcher courir, me lever, vouloir toujours vivre.
Vos 5euros sont un des meilleurs investissements de votre vie. Car après la menthe dans la bouche, il y a le souvenir, et l’envie, toujours, de revenir à Padova, rien que pour ça.

Das Caffe Pedrocchi ist eine der Hauptsehenswürdigkeiten Paduas. Schon von außen beeindruckt das schöné Gebäude mit seinen Säulen und den davor sitzenden Löwen. Einen Besuch sollte man sich auf keinen Fall entgehen lassen und einen Blick in das ehrwürdige Gebäude und das angeschlossene Museum werfen. Wo einst jedoch Studenten und Intellektuelle eine besondere Kaffeehauskultur pflegten und revolutionäre Ideen wälzten, scheint heute nur noch der gewöhnliche Tourist ausgenommen zu werden. Überteuerte Preise und unfreundliche Kellner nehmen dem Café viel von seinem Reiz.
Nichts desto trotz ist das Café ein absolutes MUSS bei jedem Padua-​Besuch den gemütlichen Kaffee bekommt man je nach persönlichem Geschmack auch in vielen anderen netten Cafés in der Umgebung.

Pedrocchi is one of the most important caffé in Italy. It’s in Padova’s center, or it’s Padova centre. Unlukely it’s a little bit filmsy.
