«Alcide» The Fish Lovers Paradise and a trueTuscan Destination
The restaurant has been here and owned by the Ancillotti family since 1849. We are now in 2012, for 163 years this is a legendary destination for superb food and wine for locals and cognoscenti of very fine food and wine.
I have been eating here for not all of the 163 years but too many years to mention!
They have a hotel that is pleasant and far more affordable than a hotel in Sienna if you are planing to drive around Tuscany…
My advice …
It is worth staying in the hotel to sleep off lunch after polishing off a few Negroni’s and a couple of bottles of Vernaccia di San Gimignano and ending with two hits or so of their Digestivi …
And By Now…
… its 2.30 pm, it’s very hot outside and every self respecting Italian has siesta time, and only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in afternoon sun
The beauty of staying in the hotel is that you can have dinner after waking up and never leave the place !
