Food good service was terrible. The waiters ignore us until we had to go to owner and complain. This poor service continued

Original Fettuccine Alfredo. Good service, expect to the slower European service. All the servers were very attentive. Had pumpkin soup and vegetable soup, fettuccine alfredo and rigatoni with cheese and pepper, and tiramisu. Everything was excelent.

What a wonderful meal! We had great service and a fantastic meal. We got the smoked salmon, best I’ve ever had. The Alfredo(have to get it in the birthplace), and a filet. I would have to say this was the best meal we had while in Italy.

I ate at many great places on my trip to Italy and Malta, and Alfredo Alla Scrofa was in the top five. First of all – the original Pasta Alfredo, with the thinnest possible tender pasta and the most savory creamy cheese sauce. I had a beef carpaccio entrée, which was divine. My cousins also enjoyed their meals immensely. The waiters were so attentive and kind. The ambience is elegant, with photos of famous customers lining the walls. We just loved our visit here.

Yuck. Worst pasta I’ve had on 5 trips to Italy. Went here on New Years 2016. The famous fettuccini Alfredo was loose and overcooked. Underwhelming experience for a restaurant anywhere and especially in Italy.

Just skip the place. So Unilocal wants more verbiage. Cup-O-Noodles would be more satisfying.

Atmosphere was great but very touristy and service was good. But, for the place that boasts having invented the dish, I have most certainly had much better Fettuccine Alfredo. The noodles were very cooked and the sauce bland, but it wasn’t bad just not great. Next course we had Saltimbocca and beans which was delicious and gelato for desert. Overall, not bad but very overpriced for the value.

The food is pricey, but you pay for what you get. Coming from the states you don’t get the privilege to enjoy the true taste of pasta. The pasta tastes like a light fluffy egg, but damn, it was surely good. I would recommend the Alfredo and bolognese for the pasta. The pesto was okay, but I didn’t think it was to my liking. For the steaks, i didn’t remember what I ordered, but it tastes delicious!!! Salmon was okay. Nothing special about it. It’s your regular salmon with a hint of salt. On the other hand, I thought the sea bass was better.

Ordered the fettuccini Alfredo after looking everywhere for it in Italy. This is the place that claims invented it! Was so rich and flavorful. Definitely they put a TON of cheese which I love but if you don’t want a mountain of Parmesan cheese on top then ask for light cheese. 5STAR service. For birthdays they turn off all the lights in the restaurant and play music and get the whole restaurant involved in singing. A Must visit for Alfredo lovers.

I genuinely did not have high expectations – everything about the idea of this place seemed to scream tourist trap, which I avoid at all costs. Nonetheless, I figured it was worth a try and I am so happy we went. The restaurant’s crowd is a mix of locals – like the massive party sitting next to us – and tourists, like ourselves. We all had to get the fettuccini alfredo, because when in Rome… It was delicious and worth it. Great, friendly staff and really excellent food. Gooooooo!

Our first trip to Rome and this restaurant was suggested to us. There’s indoor and outdoor seating. The front décor is elegant and as you walk towards the back of the restaurant you can view famous photographs of celebs and other dignitaries that ate there. Famous for their fettuccine Alfredo. Pasta was tender and very good. However, their waiter service does not live up to the reputation of the restaurant itself! During the evening’s dinner, we had 4 different waiters. The wine ordered didn’t arrive until our meal came. We had to ask for someone to bring it out. Four of us ordered the fettuccine Alfredo. They tossed the pasta at out table. Servings were handed to us and each plate had a different portion. The platter use to toss the pasta for us became 1 of the 4 plates. It was huge and messy! Sauce was dripping off the platter!

I am writing my review based solely on their claim to fame item on the menu: pasta Alfredo. I give it 5 as it was like no other! Butter and parmeggiano heaven with fresh flat noodles(fettuccini) absolutely delicious. Our server was gracious enough to suggest our appetizers and to split our pasta Alfredo orders so we could still have our secondi piatti. I was disappointed though with my order 2 skewers of shrimp & scallop that were flat and tasteless. They were supposed to be grilled but these were breaded and looked like it was just heated up and not heated through because all were raw in the middle. Terrible

For a place that proclaims itself as the«origins of Alfredo noodles» its Alfredo noodles are pretty shitty. Other than a short presentation by the waiters«mixing the sauce» it’s nothing special. I ordered a spaghetti carbonara which turned out to be some sort of noodles attached to some bland sauce with what tasted like paste and looked like something with yellow food coloring — took two bites and couldn’t force the rest down. My mother ordered gnocchi and that was disgusting. The service was pretty good, but it wasn’t good enough for me to give it another star. Yea, not worth it.

After reading some of the lesser reviews of this place I am a bit surprised. I love it here and I have been here twice with my family. The first time here we all sat outside in the hot summer night. We drank lots of wine and ate lots of pasta and had a great time. The founder of Alfredo’s is now dead — but his picture is on the wall with just about every celebrity that you can imagine — and always in the same pose, stuffing his face with a fist full of fettuccine(thus fettuccine Alfredo). Now his son runs the place — and yes — my family has a picture up on the wall with him… and he is stuffing his face with his dad’s pasta. The amazing thing about the Fettuccine Alfredo here in contrast to everywhere else is that here they use a special super rich butter on the pasta that when melted is like heavy cream. That’s why, outside of Italy all Alfredo sauces are cream based. But at the original Alfredo’s there is not a drop of cream in it. Truly. this is a special plate of pasta that you cannot get anywhere else in the world.

A bit overpriced, my guess is because they’re playing off the historical aspect of being the home of «The Original Fettuccine Alfredo». It was good but not great. Surprisingly large portions for a European place, perhaps the largest portions I had at a regular restaurant while I was in Italy. The«original» fettuccine alfredo was mediocre — like I said, good but not great — but the wife’s dish was actually pretty good. It was pretty obvious to us both, though, that, from the moment we arrived, one member of the staff was not happy to have two dirty Americans in his fine establishment speaking English. The waitress was pleasant enough and attentive but very straight-laced and professional. Normally that’s fine, but there was no counter balance to the other man’s obvious distaste to it was a bit off-putting on the whole. The food, though, could probably be worth 4 stars if the rest of the dishes were as good as my wife’s and the staff got over themselves.

We happened to run across this restaurant late one evening on the way to our apartment. We were seated in the main dining area with the few local patrons and a few other tourists. We ordered Tiramisu, Chocolate Torte, wine and coffee. It was all exceptionally good. Especially the Tiramisu. The second time, we went in for dinner. We settled on the Century menu, a multi-course meal: Fried Vegetables, Mozzarella and Meats platter along with a special drink named after some celebrity. The appetizers were fantastic, the drink too sweet for our taste. Second course, Fettuccine Alfredo, which was absolutely delicious. Noodles, butter and Parmesan only. Next course was beef on arugula, with a balsamic reduction, and rose peppercorns. Fabulous. Next was salad. Topped of with Tiramisu and their own, fantastic, tart and not too sweet, Limoncello. Well worth the money and the 3 hours from seating to paying. We returned again on our last night in Rome and had appetizer and fettuccine once more. They have a great wine selection too. We finished the night and our time in Rome with a Grappa toast. wow. The bathrooms were fine, clean and roman. The staff was busy, knowledgable, and Italian. The Italian customers were happy and enjoying the experience, The Americans were impatient and apparently thinking«when in Rome, expect USA style». (For the record, we are Americans)

This is a hard one to review! The food was very good BUT, the poor service completely ruined our visit there. Maybe we just had a bad waiter but, we were with 2 other tables that experienced the same thing. The birthplace of fettucini alfredo, too bad they don’t take care of their customers better. My meal was almost $ 100(72 euros), I expect good customer service for that kind of money! If you are going to eat here… maybe try takeout so the experience of their good food isn’t ruined.

Very enjoyable. Went with my family as tourists. Staff was super nice! The waiter forgot to place the order for two side dishes and consequently gave us free pasta boxes to try at home. Super fast service too. :)

So… yeah a bunch of tourists will most likely be dining next to you and lots of people will be snapping photos but… there will also be plenty of hardcore locals to balance that out. I’m now a vegetarian and yes, it’s been almost 6 years since I ate here but I STILL salivate at the thought of Alfredo’s prosciutto and melon appetizer! Decadent, melt in your mouth Italian prosciutto and the sweetest cantaloupe I ever tasted. You can not dine here and not order the fettuccini Alfredo. It’s pricey, but the tableside show is so worth it. Fresh Italian pasta, loads of delicious Parmagiano Reggiano, a dash of pepper and you’ve died and gone to heaven. As for the validity of their claim of inventing the famous namesake dish, who knows but it’s still damn tasty!

This is one of two restaurants in Rome that vies for the distinction of serving the original recipe for the famous dish fettuccini Alfredo. Alfredo alla Scrofa on via della Scrofa is the original location where the dish was created in 1907, while the Il Vero Alfredo at Piazza Augusto Imperatore is run by the nephews of the man who created the recipe, Alfredo di Lelio. Although Alfredo alla Scrofa is no longer owned by the same family that invented the dish, it supposedly still uses the traditional recipe(although the Il Vero Alfredo will beg to differ). Anyway, Alfredo alla Scrofa is the first one we ran into during our wanderings in Rome, so that is the one we tried on this visit. The other location will have to wait for another time. Since Alfredo alla Scrofa is located in the original building, it has many of the original pictures on the walls of the famous movie stars and celebrities who have visited it, including Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks, who popularized this restaurant and its signature dish after visiting it on their honeymoon in 1920. We ate in the first large room directly inside the door of the restaurant, which I believe is called the Actors’ Dining Room. The restaurant also features the Hollywood Dining Room and the Royal Dining Room, which offer more intimate dining settings. Although the restaurant offers a full menu of first courses, entrees, side dishes, and desserts, we of course ordered the signature dish, since my husband has been spoiled for real fettuccine Alfredo ever since he tasted the real thing at the location this restaurant used to run at the Epcot Center in Disney World.(OK, I know that’s a touristy thing to do, but when you dine at a place that’s famous for a particular dish, I think you should order it or what’s the point of going there?) They tossed the fettuccine noodles with the butter and Parmesan cheese right at our table, and it was one of the richest, most satisfying things I have ever tasted. My husband said that while it was good, it was not quite as good as he remembers it to have been at the Epcot Center location. Maybe that’s because nothing is ever as good as the first time you experience something. Usually pasta is only the first course of a typical Italian meal, but this dish is so rich that one order split between the two of us was more than enough. At a total tab of € 42(including bread, mineral water, and wine), it was also a rather expensive lunch. So be prepared to spend a bit more than you normally would, but do visit this place at least once just for the history.
