Good luck finding this place! Without a local recommendation I have know idea how you would find this gem in the maze that is Trastevere. Augusto is a super traditional and rustic place. Just a few homemade dishes on the menu. If the rabbit is available I would highly recommend it!

I believe that if you had such terrible service, it can only be because of a lack of effort or desire to immerse yourself in the surroundings. This is a traditional trattoria, that serves up some of the best that Trastevere has to offer. If you need a language cushion, or a higher level of attention, then I would suggest a more formal place near a tourist attraction. Cacio e Pepe, my favorite of the«Holy trinity of Roman pasta» was the best I’ve had yet. We enjoyed our experience so much, that we became friends with our table mates who are locals, and continued on for drinks together after we left.

A very laid back and chill spot in Roma, Italy in the quaint Travestre area. This place is CASHONLY but is worth every euro! When we got here, there was a little bit of a wait– they only open at 8pm and they do not take reservations. There are seats indoors as well as outside. When we finally got seated, our server was very friendly and helpful. We quickly ordered our food and our dishes came out shortly. The dishes are a tad on the smaller side, but that allows you to try more. All in all it was a very satisfying meal and a great bang for your buck. The food is fresh and comes quickly. We loved the selection of pasta– make sure you ask them what the specials are. I really love the area the restaurant is in, it’s very cute and tucked away. If you’re looking for a delicious meal that won’t break the bank, you need to come here, as the locals do! Until next time Roma– Ciao~

ALERT: TOURISTTRAP! Augusto is yet another of those traditional Rome restaurants that have sold their soul to the devil of easy profit with foreign tourists. Food here is NOT ok, trust an Italian who has some experience with Roman cuisine. As I sent back my rigatoni cacio e pepe the waitress asked me: you didn’t like it? I answered: of course not, this is not the proper way to make cacio e pepe. She admitted: I know, I’m sorry. The house wine by the glass was practically vinegar. Shame on you dear Augusto.

Pepper and cheese. Simple and Amazing(+the only vegetarian option). Tiny and tucked away in Travestre. It’s like eating at home with paper menus and when they are out… They are out.

My daughter and I wanted to have authentic Italian cuisine and we found this place. It was a huge waste of money actually. There wasn’t a lot of options and they only served certain foods on some days. There was only one pasta option for Monday so we both went with that. The pasta was really hard and raw. The bread was burnt. The service was terrible also. One of the ladies just walked off on us while I was ordering to get someone else to serve us. It took forever to get our bill and when we were finally served, they slammed the food down on the table. Overall, one of the worst restaurants I’ve been to, and I don’t recommend it to anyone.

Authentic Italian and not too touristy. If you are lucky enough to find this precious restaurant then enjoy the amazing ravioli, tiramisu and cake with pine nuts !

My BnB service suggested checking out the Trastevere area that is filled with good eats and local entertainment before finding Augusto that was recommended in our guide book. This area has a lot of charm and local flavor in comparison to a lot of the more touristy areas in Rome. Almost none to very little amount of tourists can be spotted here so that is a big plus! The food here is simple and comes in small portions so that you can try different dishes. Menu is pretty straightforward but the servers are happy to explain or answer any questions about the dishes if you ask them. The ambiance is very cozy and casual — and fills up very quickly! They open at 8pm but by 8:10, it was already 75% filled! We tried the Consommé(beef stock soup), Braised Lamb, and Sausage in their Tomato sauce. The bread goes great with the consommé, which is packed with hearty flavor. My favorite was the Lamb — tender and almost falls off the bone! Flavor was on-point for any lamb lovers. They do not charge a service fee, just FYI! ;)

The restaurant that we originally wanted to go to is closed on Wednesdays(who knew). We stumbled upon Augusto on our way back to the apartment we were staying in. Honestly, the meal wasn’t that memorable. I remember what I had at the other two restaurants we had dinner at(Dar Poeta and Il Belli). We waited about 20 minutes for a table inside. I think I may have had the rabbit. Again, nothing memorable(except for my husband spilling his wine everywhere). The staff was pleasant enough and the prices were reasonable. My Two Cents: Meh. The other two restaurants mentioned above are much better.

This place had a really great, down-to-earth vibe. Most of the people were Italian(surprising, given that we heard of it from a guide book). Very cute place – It’s a little difficult to find, tucked in a small piazza off to the side of behind Piazza Sta Maria di Trastevere, but worth poking around for! The pasta was al dente, but not crunchy, the sauce was simple, but tasty. We had the rabbit in cacciatore sauce– to DIE for!!! Perfect blend of spicy pepper and Rosemary in olive oil. Keep in mind it’s a la carte, so there’s no sides to the secondi. Oh and, one more thing– the bathroom is really scary. It’s a squatty toilet on a platform that I was praying I wouldn’t slip on…

Simple food, small portions. Perfect for appetite-suppressing hot humid weather. In normal weather, I’d probably actually be able to eat a primo and secondo here. The menu isn’t very big, and certain dishes are only available on certain days of the week. I had cod with olives, onions, tomato sauce(9EUR). The cod was chewy, and the dish was flavorful. The spongy bread(2EUR, brought to table without us ordering it) was perfect for mopping up the sauce. We waited about 20 minutes to get seated at 2pm on a Friday. The restaurant felt like a cozy and casual neighborhood go-to. The staff threw down large sheets of paper to serve as the tablecloth before the meal and jotted down the itemized prices for us on the paper when we asked for the bill after the meal. Cash only.

I love this place. I think it’s my favorite dining experience ever. Totally no frills and delicious, with young vibrant servers and a slamming neighborhood, this place cannot be missed. I’m gutted that they were closed for the holidays when I was there in August, I really wanted to go again.

Wow … if you are looking for the authentic Italian meal and experience then Augusto is the place to go. It can be popular with the local and Italian travelers so go on an off night, or early(like 7pm!). We had an array of incredible dishes that included simple pastas fresh green vegetables, and coniglio, chicken, etc. Vino di Casa is equally great, poured from casks out of the wooden fridge in the back. Food was incredible and service was fun.

Wonderful place. You will have to wait in queue to eat here, and honestly, it’s Rome and there are tons of great places everywhere. But we waited in line and enjoyed it wholeheartedly. Get cacio e pepi, or the bacchalau(cod), or the veal. There’s a classic, no-nonsense Roman feeling to this place.

Dazu. 1 Liter guter Hauswein(6,50) und wir waren glücklich. Grazie!

This place is simply fantastic! You’ll find Augusto on the small Piazza dé Renzi in the prencint of Travestere, which has become a haven for tourist looking for that thing that the Italians do best: food. Only thing is, the area becomes like any other tourist precint, bowing to the wishes of the tourists and losing the tradtional touches and tastes. This place seems to have maintained it though. And it is far from overstated, the most simple, but delightful restaurant I found in the area. I looked for this place especially on account of a friend’s recommendation, and needless to say I was not disappointed. Décor is very simple. The tables and chairs outside don’t match, and are covered in a paper table cloth. This proves very useful later on when the waiter uses it to write down your bill, before replacing it for the next guest ;) The menu is a printed on a piece of paper and kept inside a plastric sleeve. Beer comes in «long necks»(750mL bottles) and wine pured out of barrels at the bar. Service is on the spot and helpful and the dishes are very simple but delish. The Italian style of eating is not trying to create a dish that has everything happening at once, but to do one flavour, and do it well, in small quantities, so you have enough room for your antipastos, pasta, primas, secondis and dolches. These guys nail this. In short, food was fantastic, atmosphere charming, and the real give away that tells you how good this place is? Situated in the tourist precint, this place was full of basically locals(us being the exception ;))

Augusto is a small and very genuine restaurant, at least compared to many other tourist traps in the area. Food is very good(not exceptional) but the menu is truly authentic: love the bill written directly on the pad

A small restaurant in the middle of the lovely quarter trastevere. The menu is small, a lot of dishes are only available on certain weekdays, e.g. lasagne on saturday or gnocchi on thursday. But the food is delicous and very cheap! We were there for lunch and luckily got the last available table. The waitress was a bit short with us and started with rattling off the available dishes of the day in italian, but the service was quick and the food was excellent. The home-made tiramisu was a dream ;-). So if you are nearby I recommend to stop by and try some authentic, good italian food!

This is proper down to earth Italian food. No nonsense. The menu is whatever is fresh and available and it’s open until it’s all gone. There aren’t really any opening times. You just turn up and if it’s open and there’s a space then you eat. It may seem a bit strange but that just adds to the allure in my opinion. There a paper tablecloths that are replaced quickly for the next customer. The service is fast and friendly(albeit a bit robust). The food is amazing and very cheap. There are no airs and graces with this place so don’t go if you’re looking to be pampered. There are no fancy wine lists it’s house wine red or white, bread and water. This has to be some of the best italian food I have ever tasted. Have a walk round trastevere and if it’s open and you’re hungry head in and I’m sure you’ll enjoy the fresh italian dishes cooked the way they should be.
