Off the beaten tourist path, mainly populated by locals. The staff is wonderful(worth the patronage alone) and the prices are too low for the fresh authentic dishes. The menu is written on a chalkboard, so you’re guaranteed a delicious original creation and if you’re not too full an array of deserts will tempt you behind the glass display at the front counter. Tip: Finish your meal like a Roman by cleansing your pallet with a piece of fresh Bar Lillo Fruit.

Without question, the best cappuccino in Rome.(This coming from a Seattleite) When in Rome I will always try to stay in this neighborhood for daily access to Luciano’s shop. If I do stay somewhere else, I will make every effort to cross town for his coffee. Cappuccino the mass at Saint Cecilia’s. Just a perfect way to start a morning.

C’est une averse qui m’a conduite au Bar Lillo la première fois. Un espresso accompagné d’un cornetto pour attendre l’éclaircie — qui né se fait jamais attendre trop longtemps à Rome. La preuve, quelques mois plus tard, quand je repasse, par hasard, devant ce café du Trastevere, le soleil brille. C’est la faim, cette fois, qui nous pousse à rentrer ! La faim, mais aussi les promesses de l’ardoise… aubergines marinées, ravioli à la ricotta et aux épinards, boulettes de viande,… et j’en passé ! L’heure décalée nous permet de trouver une table de 8 sans trop de difficultés. L’accueil est sympathique, discret. Nous sommes servis en quelques minutes à peine et commençons alors à savourer un excellent déjeuner ! Je choisis une sorte de pain de viande(incapable de me souvenir du nom italien…), accompagné de légumes — courgettes, poivrons — croquants et épicés… un délice ! Mes compagnons de table semblent tout aussi conquis que moi… car au-delà du goût, les prix défient toute concurrence: entre 6 et 8 euros le plat ! Un très bon plan si vous êtes en balade dans ce merveilleux quartier, pour manger pour une dizaine d’euros à peine !

Illy espresso for one euro. Need I say more? Inexpensive espresso drinks [with complimentary sparkling water] in a quentisential Italian café setting. Hardly any tourists — most stand at the bar — and seating is minimal. The staff is incredible, often saying hello to us as we would walk by throughout the day [we stayed at the Pantheon Institute housing for students]
