I would not recommend this restaurant, we went for lunch and the service was fine. The food was fine. What really annoyed us was that we ordered two coca cola lights and were charged € 5 for a 330ml can. They never showed us the drinks menu, so when we complained at their extortionate prices they claimed that the drinks would have been cheaper had we walked up to get them at the bar. Absolutely shocking having to pay € 10 for two cokes.

While I’m generally leery of the restaurants in this area with their multi-lingual hawkers outside trying to flag down every tourist in sight, I was with a local friend who gave this place the nod. Seeing as it was lunchtime and I don’t always like to survive on caffeine and nicotine alone, we popped inside and grabbed a table. Nicola was our server, and he was incredibly on point. The restaurant was about half-full, although the balance of patrons were dining outside given that it was a gorgeous afternoon. Our menus came quickly, followed even more speedily by the bottle of wine and bottle of mineral water I’d asked for. While the bread and appetizer weren’t really memorable, the saltimbocca main course was. I was definitely not feeling peckish, and the two large cuts of meat, wonderfully rich au jus topping, and side of oven-roasted baby potatoes were just what I was in the mood for. Throughout our meal, Nicola kept stopping by to ensure that there wasn’t anything we were lacking, but he always had the good grace to watch for an opening in our conversation so he never actually interrupted. Great food, and even better service. I think I’ve found a place I’m quite keen on coming back to next time I’m in central Rome playing tourist, but not looking to be treated like one.

Ultimately, with so many options within such a short distance, this was an awful decision. The service was not great, and while the atmosphere sitting outside is what you would expect, the food put Roma to shame. The pasta bollognese was runny, the risotto just heaps of poorly cooked rice, and the appetizers a fried mess. Go next door, go across the street, just don’t go here.

D’Angelo is one of the many cafes in Rome, it is quite a big store and in a good location on a high street, in the city centre near The Spanish Steps. One bad thing to start with is that gluten free is near enough non-existent here, with staff not being able to provide much information, mainly because of the language barrier, and they don’t have wifi either, unlike a similar sort of café located across the way. I originally called in D’Angelo after a recommendation from a local, hence I expected big things, and I hoped after a rocky start on the gluten free and wi-fi situation the drink and prices would win me back — it didn’t. It is very pricy here costing 5 euros for a coca-cola, the same for an iced coffee and then the same for a panini. My Iced Coffee, was basically a coffee made cold and nothing like what you would get in The UK, at Marks and Spencer, Starbucks or Caffe Nero for example. The staff here are okay and speak english, but still it isn’t the easiest to communicate due to the language barrier. I was quite upset that the staff brought my friend and I the bill, while we was in the middle of eating and drinking, and he seemed to do the same to other customers as well, and as soon as he moved on to them, I was approached by a beggar trying to take my change, In a way I felt like I was going to be mugged and he should do more to protect customers from this, as this is something that goes on in the area and in all honesty, needs to be stopped by employees of those businesses. My coffee, as I said was basically cold coffee, and for 5 euros, it was too small and not a great quality drink, and it made it less enjoyable as it wasn’t what I’d expect either. Due to the location I want to give 2 stars, but still as the seating area both inside and out, isn’t too nice, I still feel I am being slightly generous and may have to edit this rating in the near future, with pricing, the coffee and staff issues being the key factor in this low rating.

Don’t sit here it’s a tourist trap. They charge you triple just to sit down. Our small cappuccino and tea cost 10 euro!

Anamaria served us our food on 16÷10÷13. She service was horrible! She wasn’t attentive and even took our bread before we were finished eating. When I asked to have the 2 € for the bread taken care of she got a tone and attitude with our party about just paying for the bread. I asked for a manager and she said that they don’t have managers and that she would be the only one we would speak with. I am appalled at this kind of rudeness and hope you avoid this place until their wait staff is replaced.

This review is solely based on the take-out patisserie. I did not sit down or dine at the restaurant. After a long day of walking around Rome, I found this little place and couldn’t resist the yummies behind the glass pastry case. I opted for a large cream strawberry tart. The women behind the counter were friendly and took care with wrapping my order to go. The pastry was absolutely delicious, if a little pricey. If you are looking for a Parisian style pastry treat while in Rome, this place fits the bill.

A wonderful little resturant that I found in 2009 and the rest is history! The food is excellant and the service is even better! My waiter was Luca(Gianluca) Florio, he made my girlfiren and I feel very welcome. He was very accomidating! So when you go here ask for Luca and tell him Karen from New olreans sent you!!!
