Our favourite place in Rome thanks to three simple reasons: it’s cheap, it’s tasty, it’s fun! Everybody recommended Luzzi for a «real italian experience» and having spent a week in Rome and checking out other places, it was all true. There’s no sha-bang in Luzzi, nothing here is too fancy — they have real great food and they don’t need to wrap it up in any glitter. The place had both tourists and italians, and it had a really nice familiar atmosphere — the waiters exchanged jokes with us in broken italian-english-spanish-whateverwetried and kept on throwing parmiggiano at our pasta. Apparently there’s not such thing as enough cheese. The pastas were good, the tiramisu was enchanting, the house wine sure made us happy. We’ll definitely come back whenever we will be in Rome again.

Even though they were super busy the staff were friendly and efficient. Be prepared to wait a little but the food is worth it. The pasta with clams and mussels was delicious. Perfect amount of spice. Pizza great. Tiramisu lovely and creamy. House wine not the best but this is a small detail. Prices are extremely reasonable. Portion sizes are more than adequate.

Super fun experience. First meal in Rome. and the chef was super cheerful, singing Italian song«Camilla» and swaying his way when making pizza dough and cooking pizza. The pizza was so yummy and I finished the whole thing myself, and also the bottle of wine. 7.5 Euro only, and so yes I finished that bottle too. lol. The staff are very friendly and they made the guests feel very welcome.

Luzzi was recommended by our driver, then later recommend by our Rick Steves guide. We didn’t have a reservation, so we waited in line for 15 – 20 minutes. It was worth the wait. Spinach ricotta ravioli and pizzas were delicious. Green salad was well made. Pirovano Montepulciano was so good, my family ordered two bottles. We ate there a second time and it was just as good. I wish we’d had time to eat there again. I loved it. The ravioli was made to perfection. Everyone in my family loved their meal.

I read good reviews of this place and that’s why me and my husband went to this restaurant. We were highly disappointed. Every Italian restaurant has vegetarian options in Pasta — we asked our server and he kept on repeating rather rudely that they don’t have anything vegetarian on the menu. We ordered Penne Arrabiatta. And for second pasta dish I asked him if they can add veggies to Pasta and Tomato sauce. And he said NO. I WASSURPRISED! We ended up ordering two Arrabiatta. After taking the order he never came back to our table. I saw there was another lady waiter who was interacting with the customers and seemed like doing a good job. Unfortunately our waiter was very rude. The pasta taste was also average. Arrabiatta is supposed to be spicy but this wasn’t.

So how would this super American white boy(white on the inside, anyway) describe Luzzi? One word: meraviglioso!(aka: wonderful). We arrived on a Saturday around 7pm with a group of 7. There was a fairly long line outside of the restaurant and at first we considered going elsewhere but decided to wait due to the reviews we had seen. The line moved very quickly(we stood no longer than 10 minutes), and we were quickly taken to our table — which was up the block — as Luzzi owns the main location at Via Dei San Giovanni, as well as a location on Via Dei Santissimi Quattro(one block away from the main location, less than a 30 second walk). To put it simply: we were not disappointed in waiting. The food and service were both impeccable, and very affordable. The pasta, lasagna, pizza, coffee, wine, and tiramisu were all very good. I definitely recommend visiting here if you’re in the colosseum area of Rome.

Every meal we had in Rome was a good experience, except for this one. The waiter(younger, bald, bright blue shoes) was extremely rude to us while we were ordering. We ordered ravioli and pizza. It took about 25 mins to bring out the ravioli(good time) and then another 45 minutes to bring out my pizza(bad time). No explanation, no apology, just smugness. It didn’t help that the pizza(in Rome!) was no better than a Little Caesar’s Hot-N-Ready. Seriously, Rome is bursting with good restaurants… this isn’t one of them. Avoid it!

A great meal was had by each of us. Two had delicious thin crust pizza’s. Simply amazing is you enjoy fresh ingredients on a delightfully thin pizza crust. Our other dining companion had a simply but very tasty linguine bolognese. The pasta was done al dente and the sauce had just the right blend of flavor with plenty to meat as well. We also enjoyed some nice ice cold beer. The place is relatively small with some seats outside and some inside. We sat inside away from the traditional stone pizza oven as the heat off the oven made and already home day even hotter. However, the fans inside did help. If you can sit outside.

During our day exploring the Roman ruins, we went here for lunch. The service was typical slow Italian, but when they were around the waiters were nice and spoke English. The two pasta dishes we had were good and very inexpensive. I had a ravioli with red sauce and my wife had a bacon and cheese pasta. They didn’t appear to up charge at all for sitting outside, which was nice. I would recommend this place to tourists looking for cheap good eats near the Roman ruins.

A great place to go after a morning at the coliseum. I went in right when it opened(noon), and the place filled up fast. I ordered the lasagna, which was very good, but not the best I have had. Overall, it was a good experience for a wonderful price — I wish I was more hungry to try their pizza!

This was our first meal in Rome; after having been here for 2.5 days, feel like this place is right in the middle(hence, the 2 stars; truly I would give it 2.5 if I could). So far I’ve been entirely disappointed by Italian pizza. I’m sorry but maybe I’ve been spoiled by having delicious pizza options in both NY and Boston. This pizza is the best we’ve had, which sadly doesn’t say much. Some people complained about the«burnt» crust but we thought that was the best part! We sat outside where the tables are packed in so tightly you literally touch the group next to you(ew, it was close to 85 degrees F when we were there). Service was pleasant but could’ve been better. Overall, meh. If you are looking for easy eats near the coliseum, by all means try this place which is minimally list touristy than all the other restaurants within the few block radius but don’t expect to be impressed as many of these reviews suggest.

This was our favorite pizza place in Italy! Delicious. Get the house wine, great deal for the amount they give you. Get in line early there’s almost always a line out the door during busy times. When we went they didn’t serve pizza until around 7, so that’s just good to know! Just a couple blocks from the Colosseum, head here after your sight seeing to over indulge in amazing pizza. :)

Amazing food. The best in roma so far! We had the ravioli to start with the spicy salami pizza for dinner. I had the .5 liter wine and my husband had two beers. It was 24 € and well spent. The atmosphere was amazing! Though they were busy they made us feel special and like they wanted and valued our dining experience. I can’t wait to eat there again, and I can’t recommend them enough!!!

A great place to dine at if you want something else other than pizza and pasta! They offer a menu that has a variety of roman dishes that will surely cater to your taste buds, depending on your mood. I was here for lunch after a morning visit at the Colosseum… It was empty at first, but then it started to get more and more packed within the hour. Calamari was very lightly breaded and delicious with the squeezed lemon on top so it didn’t taste greasy at all. Also got the roasted veal and braised oxtail in a tomato-y stew. Roasted veal was ok and a bit too lean but sauce was good. The braised oxtail was tender and definitely a comfort food for the rainy Rome weather that day. The stew/sauce was just amazing to go with the bread as well. By the time I was leaving, the place was packed and had a crowd waiting in line!

This place is just average on all counts. Luzzi is close to the Coliseum and has Roman style food but the flavor is lacking and you see a few upset customers asking for the bill more than once. –Expansive menu –Average food flavor –Good pricing Linguine with meat sauce(5.50 €) had a good tomato sauce and the cheese on top was a nice touch. For the price this first course is a great value. The veal(11 €) was the most expensive main course and had almost no flavor, was very fatty and is worth skipping. The mozzarella and spicy salami pizza(7 €) was delivered quickly and was only slightly greasy. The taste was average. When I ordered the waitress spoke English and the menu was in six languages. She was very polite but forgot to deliver my main course and never delivered my side course. After asking, I finally received my veal but never the potatoes. As I looked around after hearing the table next to us complain about asking for their check twice, many people looked irritated waiting. While they were nice the service still was lacking.

By far the most unpleasant dining experience we had during our two weeks in Italy. After reading positive reviews, we were looking for a place close to the Colosseum for dinner after a tour. We were only in Rome for the day and were taking the train back to Florence that evening. We were seated immediately and were able to order drinks. We knew what we wanted to eat, but the server told us to wait. So we waited. And waited. And waited. I asked him again if we could order our dinner, and again we were told to wait while the servers stood on the sidewalk chit chatting. After I heard him say the same thing to a mother with young children, I was annoyed. The place wasn’t packed, and they should expect with their location that they’re going to get a lot of tourists. Finally I explained to another server that we either needed to order now or we would have to leave. At that point he took our order and our food arrived quickly. We quickly shovelled the mediocre pizza in our faces, threw a 20 € note on the table and ran almost the whole way to the train station, almost missing our train. I could not believe how blatantly rude they were to customers. On top of that, the bathrooms were disgusting. Surely you can afford to install a seat on the toilet!

Want a good place to eat near the Colosseum? Then go to Trattoria Luzzi — they serve great pizza and other Italian dishes. Their pizzas are very affordable at around 7 – 10 euros each. They also have cheap«1st dishes» under 10 euros. The place is very popular among locals and other Italians. As it’s an extra 2 blocks away, most tourists probably don’t quite make it to this place. I actually bothered to go back during my short trip because I had such a good experience the first time around. The second wasn’t nearly as good… 1st trip: Friday night. No wait + quick, nice service. I ordered a pizza, small pasta dish and tiramisu. VERY satisfied… borderline 5 stars 2nd trip: late lunch on a Monday(prob around 2pm). The place was absolutely packed. It took almost 20 minutes to get a table, and then I swear I waited for about an hour to get lasagna, which was pretty good but not worth the wait. Meanwhile, the servers who speak perfectly good English simply ignored me. Perhaps lasagna just takes forever to bake whereas the rest of the dishes don’t. I was just annoyed w/the wait. Would I go back? Sure if I’m ever back in Rome and in the area. But I would not order anything that takes that long again =P
