This was one of my favorite meals in Rome. We were hungry, didn’t want to spend a fortune, and spotted a hole in the wall pizza joint. You can either walk up to the window and order to go or order inside and grab a stool for a quick bite before hopping on the metro. The service was friendly and the pizzas came out of the oven fresh and tasty every few minutes. I ordered the gorgonzola. It was greasy and good, and I liked every bite. It tasted much closer to a NY slice than the watery Italian-style ‘zzas I’ve been choking down here in northern Italy. Mmm, delicious familiarity. For entertainment, I watched other Americans at the window ask about prices. «x euros per 100 grams.» *blank stare* «This much.» «Okay!» The metric system strikes again!

Between the Spanish Steps and Spagna Metropolitana station, I found this hole in the wall in 2011 selling pizza by weight. We’re in Rome, who’s going to not have pizza? Like getting a hot dog in New York, you get pizza in Rome. Oval-shaped and topped with thin sliced zucchini. And super delicious! Wrapped in wax paper and ready to go.

I’m obviously not Italian but here’s my opinion on random gelato shops anyways! I was out looking for some last minute gelato before I left Rome, and since I was wandering to the Spagna metro station anyways, I saw this right outside and decided to get some. They had Viagra flavored gelato… hmm. I passed and went for the mint gelato. For some reason there were random bits of other gelato flavors in my mint gelato. Some of it was interesting mixed in, some was… not so great together with mint. The mint itself was decent. There’s a bit of dirt on the floor near the counter. There’s some small rickety metal tables to sit on inside.
