Don’t judge me, dude! We were in Rome on a Sunday night and it was late(close to 11 pm) and NONE of the local restaurants would take us for dinner(they were already closing up their kitchens). We were in a panic and starving, and thank goodness this Subway was open! I hate to resort to American chains while in another country, but we were desperate for something to quiet our rumbling tummies after a long day of sightseeing(and close to 18 miles of walking)! This isn’t your average Subway. For the heck of it, my husband ordered the Italian BMT(in Italy, we laughed about that) and he said the meat was good but had a slightly«off» taste and flavor. I had the steak and cheese and thought the same thing. The meat you get at a Subway in Italy isn’t the same as the meat you get in the U.S. It wasn’t bad, just different. My meat was very flavorless. The fresh baked bread was good and here is where this Subway excels — the produce! Oh man, the fresh tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, etc. were leaps and bounds better than the sandwich toppings you get at your average U.S. Subway chain. The tomatoes were awesome. I’m still thinking about them now! None of the employees here spoke English(and they should not be expected to, this IS Italy after all), so it was fun and a slight challenge to attempt to order with our limited Italian phrase knowledge and translation dictionary. In the end, we were all able to understand each other just enough to get our sandwiches. I wouldn’t recommend eating here if you are in Rome, but if you are desperate, it was a fine sandwich. I’m embarrassed to write this review because the foodie in me is humiliated that I ate at a Subway in Rome!
